IGS is currently recruiting for a remote Microservices Engineer to support our work with our federal customer. 


Assignment of Work and Travel:

This is a remote access assignment. The Candidate will work remotely daily and will remotely access customer systems and therein use approved customer provided communications systems. Travel is not required; however, the candidate may be required to attend onsite client meetings as requested.


This program is a transformative initiative by the customer aimed at modernizing and streamlining access to data and services through secure, reliable, and scalable APIs. As a member of the team, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and supporting API solutions that empower veterans, partners, and internal stakeholders to access critical information and services efficiently.


This role provides technical leadership across Microservices and agile teams, guiding architecture, code quality, reliability, and scalability within a cloud-native microservices environment. It advises executives on strategic technology decisions while overseeing critical deployments, operational readiness, on-call support, and risk-sensitive activities such as secret key rotations and system health monitoring.


Responsibilities and Duties (Included but not limited to):

  • Oversee technical direction of 32 microservices across 6 agile teams
  • Participate in architecture and code reviews of Springboot and Ruby microservices as well as AWS Elastic Kubernetes YAML configurations
  • Advise on improvements to health and DORA monitors and metrics 
  • Identify and recommend solutions to address scalability, reliability, and availability 
  • Advise executives on strategic technology decisions related to microservices and team capacity
  • Oversee major deployments and high-risk secret key rotations
  • Oversee on-call operations
Requirements
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience with a preference for Java, Spring Boot, and Ruby expertise
  • Experience with DevOps including CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and version control systems
  • Experience operating in a 24/7 environment 99.999 SLA environment
  • Experience with public-facing APIs
  • Experience with complex backend data integrations
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Data Dog, Kibana 
  • Strong executive communication skills
  • API Programming: Mastery

  • DevOps-AWS: Advanced
  • GitHub: Advanced
  • Java Spring Framework: Mastery
  • US Citizenship required due to clearance requirement 
  • Strong organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications and Core Competencies:

  • Docker: Intermediate
  • Kubernetes: Intermediate
  • Octopus Deploy: Intermediate
  • Active VA Public Trust
  • Prior experience supporting federal agencies
  • Certifications in cloud technologies, API development, or secure software engineering
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Prior,  successful experience working in a remote environment

Compensation: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary, including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
