Buyer/Planner
Description

 SUMMARY

  • Purchase materials, parts, supplies, and equipment following established purchasing policies and procedures and optimizes      price, delivery, and terms; typically purchases $1-3 million per year; does not become heavily involved in the development of specifications, but the work is more complex than buying off-the-shelf items.
  • Investigate and identify qualified suppliers; issue requests for quotations; may evaluate vendor reliability.Determine method      of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.
  • Review, approve and issue purchase requisitions; follow up and expedite as necessary. Select products for purchase by      testing, observing, or examining items; estimate value according to knowledge of market price.   
  • Coordinate purchasing activities with manufacturing and engineering departments to maintain inventory at planned levels.       
  • Maintain procurement records such as items or services purchased, cost, delivery, product quality or performance, and      inventories. 
  • Monitor the cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. 
  • Monitor market trends and conditions. 
  • Plan and issue schedules and material requirements. 
  • Coordinate activities of Engineering, Production Control, Purchasing and other departments to achieve optimum utilization      of facilities in meeting production schedules. 
  • Provide input to management regarding problems such as shortages, design changes, backlogs, and the like. 
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university (preferred) or a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
