Description

JOB TITLE: Librarian 

REPORTS TO: Principal  

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt 

This position is part-time, benefits eligible, approximately 32 hours/week on school days Monday-Friday during the school year.

Additional, flexible summer hours to close the library and reopen before the start of the school year.


QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Must be a born-again Christian. 
  • Must be a credible Christian role model whose godly lifestyle and character demonstrate obedience to God and the Holy Bible. 
  • Must be able to support and comply with the school’s Statement of Faith and Statement of Conduct. 
  • Must possess Biblical knowledge and the ability to integrate Scripture into subject matters taught. 
  • Must have an understanding of and commitment to Lighthouse Christian School educational objectives and philosophy of education. 
  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and in an internet/online environment; ability to quickly learn and use different software applications. 
  • Must have sufficient health and physical endurance to be able to complete assigned responsibilities.

PERSONAL & SPIRITUAL RESPONSIBILITIES

LIBRARY PROCEDURES AND MAINTENANCE 

  • Teach each of the elementary classes (18) weekly
  • Maintain and update library circulation system  
  • Purchase and weeding of library collection  
  • Process Books to add to the collection and AR Labels 
  • Organizing and running a book fair  
  • Organizing and executing Lighthouse Reads 
  • Coordinating with classroom teachers on library skills  
  • Teaching library skills 
  • Maintaining subscriptions  
  • Maintaining an accurate budget of Library and Lighthouse Reads 
  • Re-shelving library books and general upkeep of library  
  • Helping students find best fit books using Star Reading results  
  • Fostering a love for learning 

CLASSROOM/LIBRARY MANAGEMENT 


Maintains a physical classroom environment that is conducive to teaching and learning 

  • The library environment is welcoming 
  • The library is clean, safe, and orderly 
  • Library set up and furniture arrangement facilitates instruction 

Facilitates positive, productive interactions in the classroom 

  • Demonstrates genuine care and respect for students 
  • Students exhibit cordial respect for teacher and peers 

Ensures that students consistently perform at a high level 

  • Establishes and leads class to work towards high standards 
  • Students understand and follow procedures and routines 
  • Students are productivity engaged in lessons 
  • Librarian motivates students to give their best efforts 
  • Transitions students between lessons/activities with minimum down time 
  • Maintains proper control of library 

INSTRUCTION 


Plans Library Instruction and Lessons 

  • States a clear objective for each lesson 
  • Lessons contain introduction, body, and conclusion 
  • Uses transitions to connect main points 
  • Integrates lessons with other disciplines

Presents lessons that “connect” with students 

  • Activates students’ prior knowledge and/or experience 
  • Differentiates instruction as a best practice 
  • Checks for understanding and adjusts when necessary 
  • Incorporates direct instruction and multi-modal techniques 

Cultivates high level, critical thinking skills in students 

  • Encourages students to explain, elaborate, and/or defend answers 
  • Guides students in problem-solving processes 
  • Equips students to evaluate, analyze, synthesize, and apply 
  • Corrects student errors appropriately and sensitively 

Instills a Biblical worldview in students 

  • Routinely makes direct connection to Scripture 
  • Guides students to evaluate content through the lens of a Biblical worldview  
  • Encourages students towards faith in and obedience to God 

Familiarizes self with student Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) 

  • Coordinates with PLP facilitator, parents, and students to ensure PLP guidelines are met. 
  • Implements strategies and accommodations identified in PLPs. 

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Builds Strong Relationships with Parents

  • Engenders parental support and trust 
  • Communicates with parents regularly and effectively, including proactive positive communication 
  • Informs parents of student concerns: academic, social, behavioral 
  • Contributes to the general well-being and improvement of the school 

Assists the Administration in implementing policies and procedures 

  • Uphold the school's mission, vision, and values in all aspects of teaching and professional conduct 
  • Collaborates and cooperates with colleagues 
  • Attends and contributes to required school meetings and functions, including but not limited to weekly devotions, in-service training, planning meetings, Professional Learning Communities, PLP meetings, conferences, etc. 
  • Maintains and improves professional credentials 
  • Seeks opportunities for professional growth and development 
  • Fully utilize learning management systems, including keeping information up-to-date 

Attends planning meetings as required. 

  • Provides leadership and advocacy to ensure a successful, growing library program at Lighthouse Christian.  
  • Completes other tasks assigned by administration

Salary Description
$23-$30/hour, depending on experience
