Our Summer Camp Counselors are responsible for creating a fun, safe, and enriching environment for campers while supporting their well-being and following the MPCC Camp Schedule. Counselors plan, lead, and supervise games and activities that encourage positive social interaction and engagement while maintaining a high level of customer service, professionalism, creativity, and organization throughout each day of camp. This role offers growth potential with opportunities to advance into a camp leadership position.
Counselors are expected to be available most weekdays (Monday–Friday) from June 15 through August 14, with a paid orientation and training session possibly required prior to June 15. Camp operates between 8:00am and 5:30pm, including pre- and post-care, with shifts scheduled within these hours (counselors will not work open to close). Weekly schedules typically range from 25–40 hours, depending on enrollment and program needs.
- Establish and maintain positive and upbeat relationships, ensuring professional, effective communication and exceptional customer service to both campers and their parents. Greet campers and parents by name in a friendly manner.
- Provide a supportive and caring environment for children during daily activities
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of campers throughout the property by adhering to all health, safety, and first aid procedures, including pool safety and basic hygiene assistance.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, maintaining a proactive approach to prevent accidents.
- Lead age-appropriate activities such as arts & crafts, sports, games, and team-building exercises. Adapt activities to accommodate varying group dynamics and skill levels.
- Serve as a positive role model for campers by displaying enthusiasm, respect, and professionalism.
- Demonstrate good behavior, discipline, and communication skills.
- Monitor camper behavior, ensuring adherence to rules and guidelines, and resolve conflicts fairly but firmly using appropriate disciplinary methods.
- Assist in the set up and breakdown of camp activities, maintaining a clean and organized environment for both campers and staff. Handle camp materials responsibly, ensuring proper storage and care after use.
- Actively engage campers during downtime, fostering social interaction and inclusivity. Encourage teamwork and friendship building.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid First Aid and Infant/Child CPR Certification or the ability to become certified prior to the beginning of camp.
- Previous experience working with children either in a camp, school, or recreational setting.
- Enthusiastic team player who ensures quality service and a positive camp environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, fluent in English.
- Ability to work outside during the hot summer season.
- Must be available for all camp weeks.
- Final candidates will be subject to a background screening
