ABOUT THE ROLE
The Director of Human Resources Administration for New Classrooms is a key member of the People & Culture team. You’ll oversee HR strategy and operations for our fully remote organization with employees based in 20+ states. This role will manage all aspects of HR Administration including payroll, employee benefits, personnel policies, legal compliance, employee record management, performance management, and employee relations. In addition, the Director will also work closely with the Director, Talent & Culture to ensure a positive and supportive culture and experience for all employees.
Working closely with and reporting to the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer, this role will serve as the core of New Classrooms HR and will have an opportunity to design and execute on a vision for HR policies and processes, as the organization prepares for growth. Highly qualified candidates for this role will demonstrate that they have established and implemented best in class HR practices in their career and will also have entrepreneurial willingness to work across a wide spectrum of work.
WHAT THIS ROLE DOES
Payroll and Benefits Administration
- Manage payroll, including maintaining information in Paylocity, maintaining payroll files in Trello, and processing payroll bi-weekly to ensure employees are paid correctly
- Manage state compliance including tax account management, labor laws, and state benefit programs to ensure New Classrooms is in compliance with applicable laws
- Manage HR systems including human resource and benefit information systems, to ensure accurate, complete data, and provide user support to employees
- Oversee the management and administration of all New Classrooms’ benefits including medical, dental, vision, HRA, FSA/TRN, and 403b; lead the annual benefits renewal process
- Serve as the primary contact for payroll and benefit related vendors
- Review monthly benefit invoices for accuracy; manage corrections as needed
- Oversee COBRA enrollment and remittance reviews
- Respond to and resolve employee benefits issues/questions and escalate as appropriate
Human Resource Policy & Administration
- Develop a vision and plan for the continued growth of New Classroom’s HR services, especially to support the org growth over the next 5 years
- Develop and maintain best in class policies, processes and practices that support a positive, people first culture and a strong emphasis on customer service
- Organize and maintain human resources files to ensure they are in compliance with applicable laws, and contain easily accessible information
- Refine and manage the performance management and coaching process
- Lead HR onboarding and offboarding of employees
- Managing employee leaves, including communication with insurance vendor
- Respond to and resolve employee HR issues / questions and escalate as appropriate
- Respond to employee relations concerns, mediate conflicts, provide guidance and coaching to both managers and employees as needed, and escalate as appropriate
- Support the development of the People and Culture budget, and manage/track HR associated expenses, ensuring accuracy and timely payment
- Lead and/or assist in audits such as 403b and financial statements
HR / Talent / Culture Intersection
- Work in partnership with the Director, Talent & Culture on overlapping areas, including:
- Onboarding
- Coaching & upskilling
- Manager training
- Total compensation packages
- Participate in People & Culture strategy & planning
- Support other People & Culture functions and projects as needed

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

- Track record of implementing best in class HR practices
- 8 years' experience in human resource administration with a mid- to large-size organization, (SHRM or HRCI certification a plus)
- At least 2 years of experience actively managing payroll, experience with Paylocity a plus
- Knowledge of employment law statutes and other government regulations, including FLSA, COBRA, ERISA, and other employment laws and regulations and ability to keep on top of changes
- Experience with leave management (workers comp, FMLA, disability)
- Superior customer service skills
- Ability to champion the employee experience and represent the employee perspective when appropriate
- Ability to be self directed as well as work closely with multiple teams
- Ability to think strategically and proactively troubleshoot for and solve problems, sometimes with limited resources

ROLE CLASSIFICATION AND BENEFITS
This role is remote, full-time, and includes benefits such as rich medical, dental, and vision insurance, 41 paid days off per year (prorated for the period in which you work), paid parental leave, a professional development budget and a quarterly cell phone subsidy.
The hiring salary range for this role is $99,000 - $110,000 and will be commensurate with experience. We have a hiring salary range of $110,000 - $120,000 for specific higher cost of labor locations, which include New York City, Washington DC, Boston, San Francisco/Oakland, Los Angeles, Seattle and their metro areas.
New Classrooms is a fully remote organization. All employees work from home, and occasionally travel for in-person get-togethers and off-sites.
