Description

R3 is seeking an experienced Workstation and Systems Engineering Lead to oversee workstation and server operating system engineering within a dedicated enterprise environment. This role is responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and lifecycle management of workstation and server images, patching strategies, and update processes.


The Workstation and Systems Engineering Lead will provide technical leadership across endpoint and server platforms, ensuring standardized configurations, operational stability, and secure system management. This position requires deep hands-on expertise combined with leadership capability to guide engineering efforts and support Tier 3 escalations.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, maintenance, and optimization of workstation and server operating system images
  • Design and manage standardized system builds to ensure consistency, security, and performance across environments
  • Oversee patch management and update deployment strategies for workstations and servers
  • Provide Tier 3 support for complex workstation and server image, patch, and update-related issues
  • Ensure proper testing and validation of image updates prior to deployment
  • Maintain and administer image management toolsets including Microsoft SCCM and Intune
  • Develop automation processes to streamline image creation, deployment, and lifecycle management
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, development, and release teams to ensure system alignment and compliance
  • Maintain documentation for image configurations, update processes, and operational procedures
  • Monitor endpoint and server health, performance, and compliance metrics
  • Ensure systems align with applicable security frameworks and enterprise standards
  • Mentor engineers and administrators supporting endpoint and server platforms
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across endpoint and systems engineering practices
Requirements

  Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 10–15 years of progressive technical experience in enterprise IT environments
  • Significant hands-on experience with workstation and server operating system engineering
  • Demonstrated leadership or management experience guiding technical teams
  • Strong expertise in image management toolsets including Microsoft SCCM and Intune
  • Deep understanding of patch management, update lifecycle processes, and endpoint security best practices
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active or previous DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance
  • DOE L or Q clearance
  • Experience operating within highly regulated or compliance-driven environments
  • Experience working within a managed services delivery model

Certifications Desired

  • Microsoft Certified Modern Desktop Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Endpoint Manager certifications
  • Windows Server or related infrastructure certifications
  • Relevant security or systems engineering certifications

The salary range is : $130k-160k
The base range for this position is an estimate and may vary depending on relevant factors, including but not limited to education, experience, certifications, and skillset, as well as internal equity and business considerations. This range reflects base pay only and does not include bonuses, incentives, benefits, or other forms of compensation that may be offered as part of the total compensation package.
