Department Overview 

The Development team at Second Harvest leads the aspects of fund development for our rapidly growing organization through: annual campaigns, capital campaigns, endowment campaigns, planned and deferred giving, major gifts, signature fundraising and third-party events, cause related marketing campaigns, advocacy, digital fundraising, public relations, marketing, social media, stewardship and more.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a member of Feeding America – the largest charitable domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. Second Harvest Food Bank secures and distributes food and grocery products to more than 870 local nonprofit feeding partners throughout Central Florida. With the help of food and financial donors, volunteers and a caring, committed community, the food bank distributes 300,000 meals every day to a seven-county service area, which includes Brevard, Lake, Marion, Osceola, Seminole, and Volusia. Feeding neighbors facing hunger is only the beginning. By investing in job training programs, advocating for access to nutritious foods, and inspiring our community to get involved, Second Harvest Food Bank is leaning into the root causes of hunger and helping our neighbors thrive.


Work Hours

Hours needed per week: 15 to 20 hours a week

Responsibilities 

  • Attending and participating in weekly department planning meetings
  • Working in conjunction with team in preparation of events from ideation to event prep and day-of logistics.
  • Assist with mailings
  • Assist with outreach to potential donors and event sponsors
  • Public Speaking- possible speaking engagements in collaboration with Brand Ambassadors
  • Verbal and/or graphic content creation to support events
  • Other customer service and administrative duties as assigned
Requirements
  • A passion for fighting hunger locally and motivation to learn and work collaboratively with Second Harvest and its 800+ feeding partners
  • Current Junior or Senior year college student, graduate student or recent graduate (within the last year)
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple projects and tasks
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation
