SMG seeks a local Safety Advisor in the Laurel, Maryland.


The key function of a Safety Advisor is to put safety at the forefront of their job, prioritize the client’s needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible when it comes to change and travel. The Associate in this role will work in a construction environment.


Overview of Job Responsibilities

  • Site safety observations, including documentation of findings
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analysis
  •  Assist in JHA/JSA development and AHA development 
  • Develop site-specific policies
  • Create lockout procedures
  • Perform program and policy development 
  • Support local plant leadership on safety matters 
  • Support the facility's safe work permit writer and issuer
  • Conduct new hire orientation and other training needs 
  • Assist plant resources in overall safety improvement 
  • Input findings into daily site inspections for tracking
  • Input any incident or violations into the client's system
  • First contact for safety-related questions
Requirements
  • Five to seven plus years of safety experience
  • Preferably, a mixture of experience in construction and general industry
  • A degree in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent
  • Knowledgeable with LOTO

Physical Demands of the job may include

  • Moving long distances
  • Ascending/Descending stairs and ladders
  • Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
  • Working in extreme weather
  • Being exposed to loud noises
  • Wearing personal protective gear correctly
