Position: STEM Summer Camp Counselor

FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt, F/T Seasonal (Up to 40 hours/week while camp is in session)
Pay Rate: $15/hour (May 18th - July 3rd); $15.45/hour (July 6th - 31st)
Camp at Adventure Science Center (ASC) provides a wide range of science enrichment programs for youth ages 5-11. Programs combine science, technology, engineering, and math in ways that encourage kids to actively discover and examine concepts for themselves. We inspire a life-long passion for learning and teach kids creative problem-solving skills, teamwork, persistence, and follow-through in a fun learning environment.
Consistent with the mission and vision of the Adventure Science Center, and under the direction of the Camp Coordinator, the STEM Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising their assigned group of up to 20 campers that are organized by rising grade levels 1st-5th (ages range 5-11). Camp staff maintain the safety of the campers and ensure the camp’s daily program runs efficiently through detailed supervision and objective decision-making. Camp counselors utilize a set curriculum, organized supplies, and established programming to facilitate exciting, memorable camp experiences and activities.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- This is a temporary, seasonal summer position
- Summer shifts may vary week to week: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm
- Candidates must be available for the following dates (some exceptions can be made):
- Monday, May 18th – Friday, May 22nd: Camp Staff Training
- Monday, May 25th – Friday, July 31st: STEM Summer Camp 2026
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide every camper with a safe, fun, memorable, and educational experience.
- Encourage a positive and exciting learning environment, fostering a passion for STEM and Adventure Science Center.
- Actively supervise and interact with campers, facilitating activities and experiments with a focus on STEM content
- Utilize creativity, innovation, and inspiration while facilitating camp activities
- Maintain assigned classroom spaces, ensuring consistent setup, organization, cleanliness, and accurate inventory of supplies.
- Identify the needs of campers and guests and work to make each experience a positive one
- Proactively engage campers in personal, inspiring interactions
- Assist during emergency and evacuation situations

QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Education: High School graduate. Background in STEM, STEM education a plus
- Ability to manage large groups in a fun, educational environment
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation/facilitation skills
- Positive attitude required: strong desire to work with and inspire children and adult guests from diverse backgrounds in a fun, learning atmosphere
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The work environment includes daily outdoor activity in a variety of weather conditions, along with typical risks or discomforts that require standard safety precautions. This includes working in offices, meeting and training rooms, using office equipment safely, avoiding trips and falls, and following fire safety regulations.
- Typically, walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted), and 50 pounds assisted are required. At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity, visual and auditory acuity.
- Some repetitive motion is involved.
