Environmental Technician

Job Summary: The Environmental Technician performs duties related to waste management.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for hazardous waste management functions. Performs physical waste activities (e.g., moving containers, collecting samples, deactivating materials, etc.).
2. Assists with loading/unloading of hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste.
3. Assists with maintaining Hazardous Waste electronic and paper documentation.
4. Performs housekeeping duties associated with hazardous waste activities.
5. Performs various inspections and audits (e.g., fire extinguishers, bunkers, emergency response equipment) as well as plant walk-thru (as assigned).
6. Drives company vehicle and operates forklift as required.
7. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions).
2. Must be at least 18 years of age to work at this facility.
3. Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for all employees of Tech Ord.
4. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); experience and/or training related to explosives handling safety or hazardous waste handling preferred. Proficiency with Word and Excel computer applications, as well as ability to become proficient in our internal Document Control system (SharePoint) and internal Enterprise Resource Management platform system (XRM).
5. Ability to communicate and document effectively in English.
6. Ability to multi-task in support of end-result/goal.
7. Ability to work effectively with other employees as part of a team.
8. Excellent organizational skills.
9. Ability to become forklift certified upon hire.
10. Ability to obtain smoke school opacity certification upon hire.
11. Function specific RCRA training upon hire.
12. Ability to obtain and maintain a driver’s license upon hire.

4. Minimal lifting of 10 pounds is required. Occasional requirement to move by pushing, pulling or lifting up to 50 pounds and rarely lifting 50 pounds or greater with assistance.
5. Occasional bending, squatting or kneeling is required.
6. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus when viewing a computer monitor.
7. Occasional computer use is required.
8. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and explosives.
9. Ear protection is required as identified throughout the facility.
10. Where required employees must wear a minimum of 50% cotton clothing including undergarments to mitigate electrostatic discharge (ESD). Employees must also wear company issued safety footwear.
