Caprock Academy is seeking a School Nurse. Caprock Academy is a public, tuition-free school chartered by the Colorado Charter School Institute and utilizes the timeless principles of classically oriented education. As a person integral to Caprock Academy’s team, the School Nurse will maintain the integrity of, advocate for, and facilitate the implementation of Caprock Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values of character, accountability and academics. 


Caprock Academy follows the Core Knowledge© curriculum in grades K–8. This curriculum encompasses language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography, fine arts, and physical education. The curriculum is characterized by content-rich instruction, cumulative knowledge, content-specific lessons, and coherent sequencing. The foundation of our academics are rooted in classical education philosophy and pedagogy, following the grammar, logic and rhetoric trivium. The school’s mission is to help all students achieve their highest academic and character potential using proven, accelerated academic programs while providing a safe environment. The School Nurse shall report and is accountable to the Director of Business and Facilities. As a person integral to Caprock Academy’s support team, the School Nurse will maintain the integrity of, advocate for, and facilitate the implementation of the Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values always. 


FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, Non-Exempt

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Casual, part-time 

WORK HOURS: 5 hours per week

PAY RANGE: $30/hr

REPORTS TO: Head of School

Requirements

  

Essential Duties:

-  Identify students with health needs requiring accommodation in the school setting;

- Interpret the student health component for special education assessments;

- Interpret the student health component for 504 Accommodation Plans;

-  Develop Individual Health Services Plans for students who have health care needs during the school day;

- Train and delegate Unlicensed Assistive Personnel and associated/related additional professional activities;

- Conduct student vision and hearing screenings;

- Supervise student immunization compliance;

- Promote confidentiality of health information;

- Provide for the administration of medications and health related treatments 

- Procedures and associated/related additional professional activities;

- Provide information and education to school staff as needed as related to students who have health needs, infectious diseases,   and nuisance infestation;

-Actively participate in school provision of safe school environment for students and staff;

- Supervise/evaluate school staff trained to carry out designated health related procedures;

- Institute appropriate disease control measures and practical application of standard precautions;

- Provide health-related education to staff in individual, small group, and/or large group setting; 

-  Promote a safe and drug free school environment. 


Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s or higher degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution* OR three (3) or more years of licensed, practical experiences as an RN with school-aged children

- Successful completion of the field experiences and a supervised practicum as prescribed by the preparing institution, including experiences with school-age children in a community health/public health or school setting

- CCNE- and ACEN-accredited programs are also accepted.

- Practical experiences as an RN with school-aged children, including experiences with school-age children in a community health/public health or school setting

- Experience in working with students of varying ages, skill levels, and circumstances

- Valid RN issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies or an RN in a state that is participating in the nurse licensing compact agreement

- A consensus-building, participatory management style

- Professional and personal integrity

- Strong team player

- Computer proficient

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel

- Excellent communication, organizational, and people skills

- Excellent interpersonal skills

- Excellent organizational skills

- CDE School Nurse Endorsement or willingness to complete certification
