Description

Work schedule: 5:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., weekends as needed.

Summary

Operates forklift, tractors and pickle pump to remove and supply green stock or brined stock to process, packing, and grading departments. Operates 30,000 lb lift to transport cucumbers to tanks. 

     

Duties and Responsibilities

Outside Production Equipment Operator

    

Operates tractor to pull trailer with bins to haul brinestock to supply process, packing, and grading departments. Drives tractor to pull trailer to haul empty bins to pickle pump and to haul product to designated locations. Records information of transferred stock as needed

    

Operates pickle pump to remove stock from tanks as instructed by supervisor. Records information.

Observes pickle pump to note possible mechanical failure and reports this to Supervisor and Maintenance. Utilizes knowledge of mechanical principles required to set up, troubleshoot, make minor repairs and assist maintenance technician with more complex repairs to the pickle pump. 

    

Remains alert to the quality of the stock being transported at all times. Assures that no damage is occurring and that the pickle pump is operating properly to ensure top quality performance. 

    

Visually checks amount of product available for packing, process, or grading to determine which department needs product. Maintains inventory or selected product to each department to prevent downtime.

   

Operates 30,000 lb forklift to transport green stock to tanks. Operates forklift to assist in tanking of green stock.

   

Communicates by radio with inside and outside production departments to assess needs of product.

   

Operates regular forklift to complete tasks as designated by Outside Production Supervisor and/or Outside Production Superintendent

   

Keeps work clean and neat.

    

Follows safety rules and company policies.

     

Other Duties

Assists with other outside production department duties as required including the processing of stock, sanitation of equipment, unloading and loading of trucks, and operation of the sweeper. 

    

Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.

   

Must be chemically trained. 

    

Receives written and verbal instructions on the above job tasks and performs other duties as directed by Supervisor. Must be able to read and have legible handwriting.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

High school plus additional training needed. Certified forklift operator, plus must have additional training to operate larger forklift and tractor. Demonstrated mechanical ability required.

Machines, Equipment, Tools Used

Pickle Pump, Tractors, Forklifts, Sweeper, Bulk Unloader, Hand and Electrical Tools, Gasoline Pump, and Hoses, washers, hoppers, and bins.

     

Physical Demands

Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.

     

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

    

Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

     

Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady forces in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

    

Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.

     

Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a high position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

      

Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

     

Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.

     

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    

The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.

     

Work Environment

Works outside, subject to wide seasonal temperature variations and intermittent wetness from rain or some job tasks. Fumes from diesel and propane forklifts, high brine, hot pepper, lime and stagnant water. Some contact with oil, grease, rust, brine and dust. Irritating machinery noise. Gloves, goggles, aprons, ear protection and steel inserts for shoes available as needed.
