JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the operation of the Ultrasound department, overseeing and performing procedures, quality assurance, assuring federal, state and ACR guidelines are met and supervising Ultrasound staff.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Aids in scheduling appointments; answering incoming phone calls; consulting with physicians, nurse practitioners, and/or other medical assistants concerning ultrasound procedures.
- Greeting patients and checking the waiting area for arrivals; prepare patients for exams; give patients instructions about their exam and obtaining signature on consent forms where applicable.
- Responsible for maintaining a day book, retrieve prior films and reports as required; including reports and films from area health care facilities.
- Perform ultrasound exams, doppler/duplex exams, develop, sort, and load film, assist Radiologist with sonography exams.
- Perform and record required QA testing on ultrasound equipment and associated equipment.
- Responsible for assuring ACR, federal, state and local guidelines are met.
- Responsible for ACR accreditation and completion of necessary accreditation documentation.
- Responsible for proper start-up and calibration of ultrasound instrumentation.
- Reviews and updates ultrasound procedures.
- Responsible for inventory and requisition of supplies, clean and maintain ultrasound rooms.
- Utilizes RIS/PACS System to enter, retrieve, and maintain data.
- Other duties as assigned.
- May be exposed to hazardous drugs.
- Attends OSHA training upon initial employee orientation and annually completes an OSHA competency.
RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS: Direct relationship with patients, staff, physicians and administration. Must maintain a courteous and effective working relationship with patients, staff, physicians, and administration.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:
- Graduate of a certified radiology program with ARRT certificate and a valid New York State license. ARDMS registry.
- Experience in general, vascular, and breast sonography.
- Thorough knowledge of the theory and practices of ultrasonography.
- Thorough knowledge of techniques required for performance of ultrasonography.
- Skills in the use of ultrasound equipment. Ability to make accurate observations.
- BLS certificate required, or to be obtained within 3 months from start of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires sitting, standing bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 20 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate ultrasound and radiology equipment. Requires normal hearing and vision.
Salary Description
$36.00 - $54.50 an hour based off of experience
