Senior Construction Superintendent

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Senior Construction Superintendent is a key leadership role responsible for the direct oversight, coordination, and execution of commercial construction projects. This position ensures that all field operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project plans, schedules, and regulatory requirements. The Senior Superintendent provides strong onsite leadership, maintains rigorous quality control, and serves as the primary liaison between subcontractors, project management, and ownership. 


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Project Oversight and Leadership

• Provide comprehensive on-site supervision and ensure work is executed in accordance with all 

drawings, specifications, and contractual obligations. 

• Lead and guide subcontractors, field personnel, and vendors to maintain productivity and 

project alignment. 

• Collaborate with the project manager to update and maintain project schedules, identifying 

and mitigating potential delays. 

• Oversee and support the training and performance development of project team members. 


Safety Management 

• Enforce strict adherence to company safety policies and OSHA regulations. 

• Conduct routine safety audits, site inspections, and safety briefings to ensure compliance and 

mitigate risk. 

• Proactively identify potential safety hazards and implement corrective measures to prevent 

incidents and maintain a secure jobsite environment


Quality Assurance and Compliance 

• Monitor work in progress and ensure all completed work meets specifications, drawing 

requirements, company standards and industry best practices. 

• Coordinate required inspections with engineers, architects, and local regulatory agencies. 


Project Documentation and Reporting 

• Maintain accurate daily logs, safety records, delivery logs, RFIs, and site photos. 

• Promptly communicate delays, discrepancies, or field-related issues to the project manager. 

• Provide project teams, trade partners, and ownership with timely and accurate schedule 

updates. 

 

Subcontractor and Vendor Coordination 

• Oversee subcontractor performance to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to project 

timelines. 

• Verify delivery and installation of materials in accordance with project specifications. 

• Build and maintain strong, collaborative partnerships with all trades to support seamless 

project execution from start to finish. 


Field Issue Resolution 

• Address design conflicts, unforeseen site conditions, and operational challenges through 

proactive problem-solving. 

• Coordinate with project teams to develop clear, practical solutions that minimize disruption. 


Material, Equipment, and Site Management 

• Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials; verify all equipment on-site is in safe 

working condition. 

• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite environment. 

• Ensure the secure and proper storage of all materials and equipment.


Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive commercial construction experience, with at least 5 years 

in a superintendent-level role. 

• Strong knowledge of commercial building systems, construction sequencing, and field 

operations. 

• Proven experience with ground-up construction, complex remodels, and tenant 

improvements. 

• OSHA 30 certification preferred; additional safety credentials are a plus. 


REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

• Exceptional leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities. 

• Proficiency in interpreting architectural drawings, engineering documents, and construction 

specifications. 

• Competence in using project management software, digital reporting tools, and mobile 

applications. 

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet 

deadlines. 

• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

• Work is performed primarily on active construction sites with exposure to varying weather 

conditions and construction-related hazards. 

• Frequent standing, walking, climbing, and navigating uneven or elevated surfaces. 

• Regular interactions with subcontractors, inspectors, clients, and project management 

personnel. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. 

• Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and operate equipment for extended periods. 

• Ability to work at heights or within confined spaces as required by the jobsite. 


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 

• Local and regional travel as needed to oversee project sites and attend meetings.
