Job Description
The Assistant Coach, Men’s Beach National Team (BNT) is a regular full-time position reporting to the Head Coach, Men’s BNT. This role plays a key part in supporting the training, preparation, competitive performance of men’s BNT athletes and their overall standings. The Assistant Coach contributes to athlete development, technical and tactical planning and overall team performance with the goal of achieving sustained competitive excellence.
Extended hours may be required to include nights, weekends, and holidays. Cross departmental support is a general expectation of all USAV employees.
This position is located in Torrance, California.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities include but are not necessarily limited to:
- Assist the Head Coach with all aspects of Men’s Beach National Team program.
- Recruit, evaluate, and select athletes into the Men’s BNT Program and Pipeline.
- Make final determinations of athletes to represent the United States in Men’s BNT Team Events.
- Prepare and manage the Men’s BNT budget.
- Participate in the strategic planning process for Men’s BNT Programs.
- Select, train, and evaluate Team’s technology personnel and support staff.
- Coordinate all Men’s BNT competitions and camps.
- Develop, in consultation with Head Coach, an annual competitive schedule for the Men’s BNT.
- Work with sport performance multi-disciplinary team to optimize athlete health and performance.
- Create individual training plans for athletes and create pre-practice tutoring sessions.
- Create and maintain offensive and defensive scouting reports.
- Provide tactical adjustments during competition.
- Work with performance coach analyst and provide post-match debriefs.
- Provide input to head coach regarding personnel decisions, athlete rosters, and match strategy.
- Research international volleyball trends and continue to refine training systems.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Significant volleyball coaching experience, including at the collegiate, professional, or national team level; elite/Olympic beach volleyball experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrates expertise in beach volleyball technical and tactical principles, including game strategy, situational decision-making, and athlete development.
- Experience working within a high-performance or national team environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary support staff (sports science, strength and conditioning, medical).
- Proven ability to design or execute periodized training plans, manage training loads, and support athlete recovery and readiness.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and accountability with elite athletes.
- Strong skills in video analysis and use of performance data/technology to inform coaching decisions.
- Demonstrates commitment to athlete safety, integrity, and compliance with SafeSport and all applicable national and international regulations.
- Ability to travel extensively (domestic and international) and work irregular hours.
- Degree in sport administration, sport science, or related field or equivalent work experience.
- Must successfully pass a USAV background screen (prior to hire date).
- Must complete SafeSport training within two weeks of hire date and keep current as a condition of continued employment.
Salary: $120,000 - $145,000
