Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Medical Affairs leader to shape and drive global strategies to support product development, late-stage planning, and commercial readiness. This role partners closely across clinical development, clinical operations, regulatory affairs, and safety / pharmacovigilance functions to provide scientific and strategic input, while overseeing core Medical Affairs activities including scientific communications, congress strategy, medical education, field medical, and medical information. The position also leads external engagement with KOLs, academic partners, and the broader medical community, using those interactions to generate insights that inform business decisions. The successful candidate will build a high performing medical team, as well as ensuring budget alignment, executional excellence, ensuring all Medical Affairs activities are high quality, compliant, and aligned with company goals.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and execute global Medical Affairs strategy in alignment with corporate goals and priorities
- Partner with clinical teams on late-stage planning and lead Medical Affairs readiness activities
- Provide cross-functional leadership and strategic input across clinical development, clinical operations, regulatory affairs, and safety / pharmacovigilance to inform product development strategies and commercial planning
- Build and oversee operations, budget management, and tactical execution of medical affairs initiatives
- Oversee publication strategy and execution
- Lead congress and scientific meeting strategy to maximize scientific impact and visibility
- Advance collaborations with Key Opinion Leaders and establish robust partnerships within the broader medical and scientific community, including oversight of KOL interactions, advisory board strategy, academic partnerships, and patient / provider organizations to generate actionable insights
- Build Medical Science Liaison (MSL) and Medical Information teams and supervise to deliver high-quality, compliant scientific exchange
- Establish and oversee medical engagement strategies, directing team interactions with HCPs and synthesizing insights to inform organizational strategy and tactics
- Oversee the gathering and synthesis of customer insights regarding Enliven Therapeutics and competitor programs, translating findings into strategic recommendations to inform medical and commercial decision-making
- Lead medical education initiatives to support product awareness and knowledge
- Represent Enliven in interactions with external partners, including KOLs, medical experts, and patient/provider organizations
- Lead, mentor, and develop an existing team of medical affairs professionals, elevating team capabilities and performance to meet evolving business needs
- Maintain Medical Affairs excellence through adherence to the highest quality standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
- Help curate a strong patient-focused department and company culture
- MD or PharmD/PhD and 10+ years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry with a track record of increasing responsibility and leadership
- Significant experience in hematology / oncology with a strong preference for malignant hematology; CML is highly preferred
- Direct experience supporting mid-to-late-stage clinical development and ideally have supported a commercial product launch
- Proven experience building and leading medical affairs teams
- Direct experience in medical field roles or leading medical field teams
- Strong strategic thinking with proven ability to develop and execute strategies aligned with corporate goals in a matrixed, cross-functional environment
- Demonstrated ability to scale and optimize medical affairs functions
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to travel up to 30%
- SF Bay Area highly preferred (Hybrid/Remote)
The annual salary range Enliven reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting is $325k - $400k. The actual salary offered will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills and expertise, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. Benefits are included and other incentives such as bonus and equity may be provided. This range is subject to change based on business needs, job scope changes, market conditions, and individual qualifications.
