Summary
The Business Lender is responsible for developing, managing, and growing a high-quality commercial loan portfolio for the bank while delivering exceptional customer service to local businesses. This role combines business development, relationship management, and community involvement. The lender serves as a trusted financial advisor to business clients, helping them meet their financing needs while ensuring the bank’s risk standards and regulatory requirements are met.
Responsibilities
1. Business Development & Relationship Management
- Identify, develop, and maintain strong relationships with small and mid-sized business clients within the bank’s market.
- Attend community, business, and networking events to promote the bank and generate new business opportunities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for business clients, providing guidance on banking solutions including loans, deposits, treasury services, and other commercial products.
- Cross-sell bank products and collaborate with retail and specialty banking teams.
2. Loan Origination & Portfolio Management
- Originate a variety of commercial loans including commercial real estate (CRE), equipment financing, lines of credit, working capital loans, and SBA loans (if applicable).
- Ensure timely and accurate collection of financial information and loan documentation.
- Monitor existing loan portfolio for performance, covenant compliance, risk ratings, and early warning indicators.
3. Risk Management & Compliance
- Maintain high standards of documentation and compliance with bank policies, state/federal regulations, and safety/soundness requirements.
- Identify potential credit issues early and work with the credit and loan operations teams on remediation strategies.
- Ensure adherence to fair lending, BSA/AML, and other regulatory standards.
4. Community Engagement
- Represent the bank professionally in the community through volunteerism, leadership groups, chambers of commerce, and local business associations.
- Support the bank’s mission to serve local businesses and strengthen community economic development.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of commercial lending, credit analysis, banking, or sales experience.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and customer service orientation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and either banking or sales software.
Work Environment:
- Office-based with regular in-market travel for client meetings and community events.
- Occasional evening or weekend networking events may be required.
