Description

 We are seeking a technically rigorous Electrical Engineer with deep expertise in low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems within a switchgear OEM or equipment manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), transformers, and mission-critical infrastructure such as data centers, along with working knowledge of UL508A industrial control panel design.


This position focuses primarily on power distribution engineering, with control panel integration serving as a supporting capability.

Requirements

Required Responsibility 

  • Power Distribution Systems (Primary Focus)
  • Design, engineer, and support the manufacturing of:
    • Low- and medium-voltage switchgear (UL891, UL1558)
    • Switchboards and panelboards (UL67)
    • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
    • Distribution transformers (dry-type and liquid-filled)
  • Develop and review single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and interconnection drawings.
  • Perform:
    • Short circuit analysis
    • Arc flash hazard analysis (IEEE 1584)
    • Protective device coordination studies
    • Load flow and voltage drop calculations
  • Ensure proper equipment SCCR alignment and bus bracing requirements.
  • Evaluate breaker selection, trip units, and coordination schemes.
  • Support equipment submittals, factory testing, and customer technical reviews.
  • Interface with utilities, consulting engineers, EPC firms, and data center operators.
  • Support FAT, commissioning, and field troubleshooting when required.

Industrial Control Systems (Secondary Focus – UL508A)

  • Design and review UL508A control panels associated with switchgear and MCC applications.
  • Generate control schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Perform SCCR calculations in accordance with UL508A.
  • Integrate PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, protective relays, and monitoring systems.
  • Support UL inspection requirements and maintain panel compliance documentation.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing teams for proper control wiring practices.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in power distribution engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Switchgear and switchboard design
    • MCC systems
    • Transformer applications
    • Data center power distribution architecture
  • Working knowledge of UL508A control panel design.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • NEC (NFPA 70)
    • NFPA 70E
    • IEEE 1584 (arc flash)
    • IEEE 242 (coordination)
    • Relevant UL standards (UL891, UL1558, UL67, UL508A)
  • Experience with SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a switchgear OEM manufacturing environment.
  • UL508A MTR (Manufacturer Technical Representative).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification not required but would be a bonus
  • Experience with Tier III / Tier IV data center infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of UL98, UL1066, and protective relay integration.

Key Competencies

  • Strong understanding of short circuit withstand ratings and bus bracing.
  • Expertise in protective device coordination and selective coordination strategies.
  • Clear understanding of upstream/downstream equipment rating relationships.
  • Practical knowledge of grounding, bonding, and fault current pathways.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and field service teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a compliance-driven engineering mindset.
Salary Description
$130,000 - $170,000
