We are seeking interns to support the Human Resources Department with employee file compliance activities. Interns will assist with file audits, documentation review, and follow-up to help ensure files meet applicable regulatory and agency requirements. Requirements
- Audit Form I-9 files to support compliance with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regulations, including identifying missing forms, completion errors, and improper retention.
- Audit employee personnel files to support compliance with IDHS guidelines, including verifying presence and currency of required documentation (e.g., background checks, staff training records, proof of education, and valid driver’s license documentation, as applicable).
- Document audit findings clearly and consistently using HR-provided checklists and/or tracking logs.
- Flag discrepancies, missing documentation, and potential compliance risks for HR review; assist with follow-up requests as directed.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information according to organizational policies.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program (Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field preferred).
- Ability to read and follow written compliance guidelines and checklists.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately with repetitive tasks.
- Professionalism and discretion when working with confidential employee information.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and/or HRIS/document management systems.
- Clear written communication skills for documenting findings.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
