GOH is recruiting in anticipation of potential future openings that are subject to final approval and funding. We are seeking a highly skilled Graphic Designer to provide comprehensive digital and print communications support for a federal scientific agency. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between complex scientific data and engaging visual storytelling, creating everything from 3D illustrations to high-stakes board presentations. You will be responsible for maintaining the Agency’s visual identity while ensuring all products are accessible to all citizens.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create professional graphic design and layouts for print and digital media, including press kits, brochures, and digital documents.
- Produce original illustrations in traditional, digital, and 3D formats to clarify complex descriptive information for the public and stakeholders.
- Design and edit high-level Microsoft PowerPoint presentations for agency leadership.
- Illustrate and design infographics for press releases, media events, and research publications.
- Create large-scale graphics for trade shows, event booths, and conferences.
- Design materials and animated content for video production, web, and social media platforms.
- Ensure all content meets Section 508 accessibility requirements and strictly adheres to Agency branding guidelines.
- Gather requirements from researchers and stakeholders to interpret and accurately depict scientific subject matter.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional graphic design experience (5–7 years required for Senior level).
- Expert-level proficiency in the Adobe Creative Cloud suite and project/digital asset management software.
- Proven ability to create highly detailed, scientifically accurate depictions of complex objects and principles.
- Demonstrated experience with 508 compliance standards.
- Must provide 1-2 pieces of original work for review. Please attach these items in your application.

- Competency in mentoring junior design staff.
- Advanced knowledge of motion graphics and video editing software.
- Strong conceptual thinking and the ability to develop cohesive design treatments across a suite of products.
Work Environment: The work environment is a typical office setting onsite in Alexandria, VA.
Physical demands: The physical demands of the job include sitting for extended periods, and occasional walking and standing. Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for 80% of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. Must be able to visually inspect and edit high-resolution graphics for extended periods.
Position type and expected hours of work: This is a full-time exempt position. Typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 40-60 hours per week. Some job activities may be required outside of typical workdays/hours. Overtime is expected during peak periods.
Travel: 20% local and regional travel, with overnight stays necessary
