Description

  

The Electromechanical Engineering Technician provides hands-on technical support for the development, testing, servicing, and maintenance of advanced medical devices, including systems such as the ellacor® Micro-Coring® platform.

Working closely with the Senior Electromechanical Engineering Technician and engineering staff, this role supports prototype assembly, device testing, troubleshooting, and service preparation of electromechanical medical systems.

The technician focuses on device assembly, electronics rework, electrical testing, and system diagnostics, enabling the senior technician to focus on fixture development, system architecture, and advanced troubleshooting.


Key Responsibilities:


Electromechanical Device Assembly

· Assemble electromechanical medical device systems including console components, handpieces, cables, and accessories

· Assemble and integrate system subassemblies including vacuum tubing, connectors, filters, and mechanical interfaces

· Build and modify prototype hardware according to engineering drawings and work instructions

· Fabricate and modify wiring harnesses, cables, and electrical connections


Electronics Assembly and Rework

· Perform precision soldering and rework of surface mount and through-hole components

· Repair and modify electronic assemblies used in development systems

· Replace electronic components and connectors on prototype or service hardware

· Perform microscope inspection of fine-pitch electronic assemblies


Electrical Testing and Diagnostics

· Perform electrical validation and diagnostic testing of electromechanical systems

· Use electronic test equipment including:

o Digital multimeters

o Power supplies

o Electrical test fixtures

· Support system troubleshooting including electrical faults, connectivity issues, and subsystem failures

· Assist with troubleshooting system components including handpieces, footswitches, and console electronics


Prototype Development and Engineering Support

· Support engineers with prototype builds, engineering changes, and system modifications

· Assist in development testing and validation activities

· Support engineering investigations and failure analysis of returned or malfunctioning systems

· Document test results and observations during development testing


System Service and Maintenance Support

· Assist with inspection and repair of returned devices and development hardware

· Support preparation of systems for engineering evaluation and service analysis

· Replace consumable system components used during testing

· Assist with system setup and configuration during engineering evaluations


Operations and Logistics Support

· Assist with procurement and sourcing of electronic components and engineering materials

· Support shipping and receiving of engineering hardware and laboratory supplies

· Maintain inventory of prototype materials and engineering consumables

· Assist with coordination of laboratory waste handling and safety compliance activities


Laboratory and Device Handling

· Handle sensitive medical device assemblies and precision components

· Follow controlled procedures for device setup, cleaning, and disinfection of system components

· Maintain organized laboratory workspaces and engineering equipment



Requirements

  

Required Skills and Experience

· Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related field or equivalent hands-on technical experience

· Experience with:

o Electronics assembly and soldering

o Electromechanical system assembly

o Electrical testing and troubleshooting

o Reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings

· Familiarity with electronics workmanship standards such as:

o IPC-A-610

o J-STD-001

· Strong attention to detail and ability to follow controlled procedures

The ideal candidate is a hands-on electronics and electromechanical technician who enjoys building, modifying, testing, and troubleshooting complex hardware systems.

This role complements the Senior Electromechanical Engineering Technician by providing strong technical execution in electronics assembly, system testing, and device servicing, helping accelerate engineering development and product support activities.
