Auto Technician II
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Grade(s): 7/8 ($25.01 - $35.91 DOE)
Purpose:
The Automotive Technician will perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on Tribal and/or private vehicles, which might also include heavy equipment. Incumbent will perform tire installation, lube, and automotive repairs, conduct vehicle inspections for mechanical services, and perform scheduled maintenance. The Automotive Technician will assist with the drop-off and pick-up of vehicles. Automotive Technician will supervise Automotive Technicians to ensure daily tasks are performed correctly and completed in a timely manner.
Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
• Perform assigned vehicle maintenance in accordance with dealer and manufacturer standards.
• Complete routine and minor maintenance services, including oil and filter changes.
• Conduct full vehicle maintenance inspections, including tires, brakes, and fluid levels.
• Perform visual safety and courtesy inspections.
• Mount, balance, and rotate tires.
• Replace batteries, bulbs, belts, and hoses as needed.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment.
• Complete general shop maintenance tasks as needed.
• Oversee and coordinate the daily work of Automotive Technicians.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities. A comprehensive set of capabilities required to perform job tasks effectively:
• Basic knowledge and understanding of automobile mechanical systems.
• Ability to operate a variety of vehicles, including cars, light trucks, and vans, with proficiency in both manual and automatic transmissions.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot basic automotive issues.
• Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail.
• Ability to manage tasks efficiently and meet established deadlines.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet established deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications (education, experience, skills):
• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience performing fundamental vehicle maintenance.
• Must be 21 years of age with a Valid driver’s license .
• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification.
Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills)
• Four (4) or more years of experience performing fundamental vehicle maintenance.
• Mitchel 1 software or similar software knowledge
Physical Requirements. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation:
• The work is active, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, kneeling, stooping, pushing, and pulling items weighing up to 50 pounds. The majority of work is labor intensive.
Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:
• Some travel may be required on small aircraft or ferry.
• Certain positions at Tlingit and Haida may have exposure to certain hazardous materials or conditions. The supervisor will review these if applicable.
