Staff Accountant
Description

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing grant financial activities, revenue recognition, and key accounting functions that support the organization’s financial operations. The role works closely with the Finance team, program leadership, and external funding agencies to ensure accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and financial transparency across all grant-funded programs. 

 

Essential Responsibilities 

Grant Management & Compliance 

  • Prepare and manage grant budgets, modifications, and financial reporting for all active agency grants. 
  • Complete monthly grant vouchering and reimbursement submissions to funding agencies. 
  • Monitor and report on grant spending, balances, and compliance requirements. 
  • Track the status of grant applications, awards, and funding timelines. 
  • Prepare and submit required financial reports to grant funders. 
  • Serve as a financial liaison to program leadership regarding grant budgets and allowable expenses. 

Revenue Recognition & Financial Analysis 

  • Ensure proper revenue recognition for grant and patient service revenue in accordance with accounting standards. 
  • Record and reconcile patient service revenue entries from the electronic medical record system. 
  • Perform contractual allowance analysis and bad debt calculations. 
  • Reconcile accounts receivable balances and analyze doubtful account provisions. 

Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations 

  • Assist with monthly financial close processes including journal entries and account reconciliations. 
  • Support the annual financial audit and preparation of audit schedules. 
  • Assist with preparation of agency operating budgets and program budgets. 

Regulatory & Compliance Reporting 

  • Prepare and submit monthly HCRA tax reporting and supporting schedules. 
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and review of financial policies and procedures. 
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and regulatory guidelines. 

Additional Responsibilities 

  • Provide financial support to program leaders during budget development and grant applications. 
  • Maintain accurate financial documentation and supporting schedules. 
  • Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned. 


Requirements

Qualifications 

Education 

Associate's degree in relevant field and two (1) year relevant experience

OR

BA in Accounting or related field with five (3) years of relevant experience

 

Knowledge & Skills 

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) 
  • Understanding of nonprofit and grant accounting practices 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to interpret financial regulations, grant guidelines, and compliance requirements 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments 


Salary Description
$55,000 -$60,000
