The Staff Accountant supports the accounting function by maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month-end and year-end closing, and ensuring compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and internal controls. This role partners closely with finance, payroll, and operations to deliver timely, accurate financial reporting within a regional banking environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES include the following.
- Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP
- Perform monthly and quarterly account reconciliations (cash, loans, deposits, investments, accruals) and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure accuracy of financial data
- Support preparation of internal and external financial statements
- Perform variance analysis and explain material fluctuations
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and documentation
- Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes as needed
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis as requested by leadership
- Support broader accounting and finance initiatives as needed

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 2–4 years of relevant accounting experience
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and operations, with financial reporting knowledge
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

- Experience in multi-entity or multi-location organizations
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Experience working with accounting systems and financial databases
COMPUTER SKILLS
Ability to use standard business and accounting software applications necessary to perform essential job functions, including Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook) and general computer systems. Ability to accurately enter, retrieve, review, and analyze accounting and financial data using electronic systems and databases in a professional office environment.
