Transporter
Description

 

Upon general supervision, the Transporter is responsible for safely transporting unaccompanied children (UC), staff, and/or materials to approved destinations in accordance with Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) policies, state licensing standards, and agency procedures. The Transporter ensures all transportation is conducted safely, efficiently, and with the utmost respect and care for the children being served.


This role requires professionalism, reliability, strong interpersonal skills, and adherence to all safety, confidentiality, and reporting protocols. The Transporter plays a vital part in supporting daily program operations and ensuring the well-being of children in care.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely transport unaccompanied children (UC) to and from appointments, court hearings, sponsor reunifications, airports, and other approved destinations.
  • Ensure all trips are pre-approved and documented in accordance with ORR and agency procedures.
  • Operate agency vehicles responsibly and maintain compliance with all traffic laws, ORR transportation policies, and safety standards.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of agency vehicles, reporting any maintenance or safety issues immediately.
  • Ensure all youth are appropriately supervised during transport and follow agency safety and behavior protocols.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and trauma-informed interactions with children at all times.
  • Adhere strictly to assigned routes and schedules while allowing for flexibility based on program needs.
  • Complete and maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and incident reports as required.
  • Ensure all required documentation, including trip authorizations, release paperwork, and sign-in/out forms, are properly completed.
  • Report any accidents, delays, or incidents immediately to a supervisor and follow required reporting procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding youth information and program operations in compliance with ORR and HIPAA standards.
  • Keep the assigned vehicle clean, fueled, and in safe operating condition at all times.
  • Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules and coordinate service as needed.
  • Ensure vehicles are equipped with emergency supplies, first aid kits, and child-appropriate safety restraints.
  • Follow all agency and ORR safety protocols during emergency or crisis situations.
  • Collaborate with case management, youth care, and clinical staff to coordinate safe and timely transportation for program needs.
  • Communicate clearly with program leadership about schedule changes, delays, or transportation barriers.
  • Support the agency’s mission and demonstrate professionalism when representing the organization in the community.
  • Participate in required training, including trauma-informed care, CPR/First Aid, defensive driving, and child safety.
  • Maintain a welcoming environment for families and other community partners.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and PII privacy and security requirements.
  • As with all of our positions, we work as a team and various duties may be assigned at any time including tasks to support other AGH programs/services, cleaning, organizing, child care, attending to the needs of the child in your care or in the office, attendance at meetings, transportation, paperwork, etc.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Reporting To: Program Director


Hiring Rate of Pay: $20.00 per hour

Requirements

  1. High School Diploma or GED required.
  2. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  3. At least 21 years of age (as required by ORR transportation standards).
  4. 1–2 years of professional driving experience (preferably with youth, social services, or nonprofit organizations).
  5. Ability to pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check, criminal background check, and drug screening.
  6. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist with loading/unloading supplies or luggage.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Demonstrated dependability, punctuality, and attention to safety procedures.
  9. Be able to obtain Criminal and Child Abuse Clearance from the State of California/Department of Justice.
  10. Must be available full-time and able to adjust work day/work week to provide services when clients and families need them, which can routinely include evenings and occasionally weekends, in order to ensure coordination and continuity of services. 
  11. Demonstrate the Understanding of the importance of compliance with HIPAA privacy practices.
  12. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong conflict resolution, communication and organizational skills; with great attention to detail. 
  13. Ability to adhere to our attendance and punctuality policy.
  14. Must pass and remain current in CPR/First Aid.
  15. Must be able to effectively utilize computers and basic computer software.  
  16. Must meet Licensing (or contract if not FFA position) and insurance requirements. 
  17. Must have a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record. Must be at least 18 years old with at least 2 years of driving experience. 
  18. A Greater Hope includes all employees in the DMV pull notification process, notifying AGH of infractions throughout the process. 
  19. All Employees are required to report all arrests within 48 hours of arrest as per Licensing requirements. 
  20. Must pass a drug screen, physical exam, and Tuberculosis skin test. 
  21. A Greater Hope participates in  E-Verify and will verify your Social Security Number. 
  22. Foster Family Agency experience preferred. (if applicable)

Physical Demands

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, move quickly, run, use hands, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and taste or smell. There are physical demands associated with this position.  The employee must also be able to remain in a seated position while working in the office.  Employees may be required to and must often lift or carry items 10-50 lbs., usually holding it in the hands or arms or on the shoulder. There may be situations where the employee will have to care for the personal needs of infants and children such as managing personal accidents/bathroom support, feeding and, cleaning up infants and children.  The employee may be working outside for periods of time in all seasons of weather. 


Employees will be required to drive a motor vehicle.


This position requires regular and consistent attendance, excessive unplanned absences are disruptive to our Agency business.


All employees, regardless of position, serve as role models for children, adolescents and others who are served by our agency.  Therefore, each employee must at all times be emotionally stable and able to function effectively with children, adolescents and adults who may have mental or behavioral health problems.  The staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate daily behavior, appropriate expression of emotions, as well as appropriate role modeling.  Hostility, aggression and unnecessary or inappropriate physical actions as well as inappropriate emotional expression are not acceptable.

$20.00 per hour
