POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Corporate Attorney is a key member of the Corporate Legal team, responsible for providing legal counsel on matters related to corporate law, privacy, governance, regulatory compliance, reinsurance, and contracts. The incumbent will work closely with the Corporate Legal Team as well as internal stakeholders including operations, marketing, Senior and Executive Leadership to ensure legal and regulatory alignment across business initiatives. The position also involves direct interaction with external regulatory agencies and industry bodies to manage filings, respond to inquiries, and support examinations.
The Senior Corporate Attorney plays a critical role in shaping legal strategy, mitigating risk, and supporting the company’s operational and strategic goals within the insurance sector.
DUTIES:
· Performs hands-on legal work in a range of areas including corporate compliance, commercial transactions, financing, reinsurance, intellectual property and copyright matters, and other regulatory matters.
· Ensure compliance with federal and state insurance laws and regulations, including privacy and AI laws.
· Provide legal support for market conduct exams, including coordination of responses and remediation efforts.
· Support corporate governance initiatives, including board reporting, policy development, and legal oversight of governance frameworks.
· Assist in the development and implementation of corporate compliance policies and training programs.
· Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various commercial contracts and agreements and regulatory filings as needed.
· Execution of commercial contracts, including interaction with business units in the preparation of contracts and advising on the acceptable terms and conditions.
· Managing and mitigating legal risks by designing and implementing company policies and procedures.
· Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting the insurance industry and assess their impact on business operations.
· Conduct other research as assigned.
· Prepare opinions and other memoranda as requested.
· Other duties as assigned.
SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
· Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, California preferred.
· 15–20 years of legal experience, preferably in insurance law, regulatory compliance, or corporate governance.
· Strong understanding of personal auto insurance products and state regulatory frameworks.
· Strong understanding of legal principles, including corporate governance, regulatory compliance, corporate law, and securities.
· Experience with privacy law and implementation of policies, contracting, and corporate governance.
· Detail-oriented and proactive in identifying and addressing potential legal issues.
· Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
· Ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
· The ability to communicate complex legal issues and risks in terms that non-legal colleagues can understand.
· Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Collaborative mindset with experience working cross-functionally across legal, compliance, product, and executive teams.
· Works with a sense of urgency to meet the needs of the business.

· This is a position based in a professional office environment or remote/hybrid setting, depending on company policy.

Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (up to 8 hours per day) while working on a desk computer.
· Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents.
· Ability to use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and video conferencing tools.
· Must be able to read and interpret documents, emails, and computer screens.
· Extended screen time is required.
· Must be able to hear and speak clearly on the phone for extended periods.
· Use of a headset is common and may be required.
· Minimal physical movement required; occasional walking or standing may be needed.
