Job Summary
The Staff Accountant, maintains financial records, reconciles accounts, and prepares monthly financial statements (balance sheets, income statements). They handle general ledger duties, accounts payable/receivable, and assist with month-end closing, audits, and tax filings. This role requires strong proficiency in Excel, accounting software, and analytical skills to ensure compliance and accuracy. The Bank Treasury manages the company's liquidity, funding, and financial risks (interest rate and foreign exchange) to ensure solvency and profitability. They handle daily cash positioning, invest surplus funds in money markets, and manage the bank’s balance sheet to comply with regulatory capital requirements. Treasury acts as the central hub for financial stability, balancing the need for profitability with the requirement for safety.
Key Responsibilities of Staff Accountant:
General Ledger & Reconciliation:
Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing procedures, including reconciling bank accounts and balancing the general ledger.
Financial Reporting:
Prepare, analyze, and report on financial statements to assess accuracy and compliance with regulations.
Accounts Payable/Receivable:
Manage invoices, verify payments, and handle collections.
Audit & Tax Support:
Assist with internal and external audits by gathering documentation; prepare tax forms for federal, state, and local agencies.
Budgeting & Analysis:
Assist with forecasting, budget updates, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
System Maintenance:
Work with accounting software and recommend updates to enhance functionality.
Key Responsibilities of Bank Treasury:
Liquidity Management:
Ensuring the bank has enough cash to meet obligations by monitoring inflows and outflows.
Asset Liability Management (ALM):
Managing risks arising from mismatches between assets (loans) and liabilities (deposits), particularly interest rate risk.
Funding & Capital Management:
Sourcing funds, managing capital adequacy, and optimizing the balance sheet to meet regulatory standards.
Risk Management:
Monitoring and mitigating risks related to market volatility, including foreign exchange and interest rates.
Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP):
Pricing liquidity for business lines within the bank.
Investment & Trading:
Buying and selling interest-bearing securities and managing foreign exchange for clients.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensuring compliance with capital, liquidity, and reporting regulations.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred.
Extensive experience in procurement and hospitality accounting, or financial services.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
Familiarity with double entry bookkeeping principles and accrual accounting methods.
Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across departments.
