Inserter W+D In-House Technician

Position Summary:

The Inserter W+D In-House Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all W+D inserter systems to ensure optimal equipment performance and production efficiency. This position serves as the company’s primary internal expert for W+D inserter functionality and works closely with production leads, operators, and management to resolve equipment-related issues, minimize downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The role also includes managing parts inventory, coordinating vendor support when necessary, and ensuring all work meets safety and operational standards.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on W+D inserter equipment to reduce downtime and ensure maximum production output.

· Conduct preventative maintenance and system calibrations in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and internal schedules.

· Collaborate with inserter operators to identify root causes of performance or mechanical issues, implementing corrective actions as needed.

· Serve as the primary liaison between the company and W+D technical support for complex repairs or system updates.

· Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including service logs, repair histories, and parts usage.

· Manage parts inventory and procurement, ensuring adequate stock levels and cost-effective sourcing.

· Provide hands-on training and technical guidance to inserter operators and leads on machine operation, care, and best practices.

· Support the development and implementation of process improvement projects focused on equipment reliability, speed, and safety.

· Participate in meetings with vendors and management to assess equipment performance and identify upgrade opportunities.

· Ensure all work adheres to Runbeck safety policies, OSHA regulations, and equipment manufacturer standards.

Requirements

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.

· Minimum 3–5 years of mechanical and electrical maintenance experience with W+D inserters or similar high-speed mailing or finishing systems.

· Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of pneumatics, electronics, and PLC systems.

· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and electrical diagrams.

· Skilled in identifying and resolving equipment failures efficiently under time-sensitive conditions.

· Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.

· Proficiency with maintenance management systems and parts inventory tracking.

· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks safely.


Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience with W+D BSC, BB700 series inserters or equivalent production systems.

Work Environment:

This position operates primarily in a production environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and moving equipment. Occasional extended hours, weekend work, or shift adjustments may be required during peak election production cycles.
