GENERAL SUMMARY 

The Pharmacy Director Affiliate is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of their pharmacy. They ensure that all staff members are performing their jobs effectively and that customer service standards are being met at all times.



 


Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Maintaining relationships with various regulatory bodies including state boards of pharmacy and federal agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • Ensuring that pharmacy staff members within the affilliate are properly trained in accordance with state regulations.
  • Providing consultation services to physicians regarding medications and treatment options for patients.
  • Establishing policies and procedures for the operation of the Affilliate Pharmacy Department.
  • Manage medication inventory, ordering, and receiving processes to ensure an adequate supply of medications while minimizing waste.
  • Managing staff members in the Affiliate Pharmacy Department, including hiring, training, scheduling, and disciplining.
  • Providing counseling services to patients regarding their medication use.
  • Ensuring that medications are stored properly to prevent damage or contamination.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other health care professionals within the community.
  • Develop and maintain the pharmacy budget, ensuring efficient and cost-effective operations.
  • Negotiate and manage pharmacy service contracts, including third-party payers, to optimize reimbursement and meet the needs of the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
  • Evaluate new drugs and therapies for safety, and cost-effectiveness, making recommendations to the organization as appropriate.
  • Serve as a resource to patients, families, and staff on matters related to medication use.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
  • Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS


  • Registered pharmacist in good standing with state board of pharmacy.
  • BLS certification required, ACLS preferred.


KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES


  • Strong understanding of federal and state laws and regulations governing pharmacy practice.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation.
  • Knowledge of fiscal management techniques.
  • Knowledge of health care planning and management principles and practices sufficient to manage, direct, and coordinate pharmacy operations.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and other third-party payer’s guidelines.
  • Skills to train and educate pharmacy staff and explain complex information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill in using computer programs and applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to delegate tasks, motivate their team and hold their team accountable for their work.
  • Customer-oriented with ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
  • Complies with all health and safety policies of the organization.

  • Ability to competently use Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and appropriate practice management software.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy required.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


  • 10+ years of experience as a pharmacist, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
