Description
Prepare engineering calculations and designs for customer products and projects and to ensure specifications and performance requirements are met, and engineering approvals and certifications are obtained as required by the body having jurisdictions.
- Analyze customer specifications, sales quotes, customer supplied information, and performance requirements to engineer product.
- Confer with other engineers and design staff to interpret design concepts and to determine design modifications as needed.
- Perform calculations in preparation for designing products.
- Analyze code requirements to ensure products are manufactured according to requirements.
- Design structures to meet load requirements and strength needs.
- Ensure that all designs, drawings, and calculations meet customer specifications.
- Review all applicable documentation and company procedural manuals to determine critical dimensions of design for fabrication and shipping.
- Develop 3D models, drawings, and designs based on change orders and customer requests.
- Train new employees in operation of design software and all aspects of Structural/Mechanical Engineering responsibilities.
- Check other’s work for accuracy and code compliance.
- Prepare necessary paperwork for required state engineering certifications.
- Provide assistance and information to Project Managers, Designers, Sales Staff, Manufacturing Staff, and Customers on engineering questions and concerns.
- Communicate with Project Managers throughout projects to ensure products are designed and manufactured according to requirements, changes are appropriately applied, and customers are satisfied with products and services provided.
- Study engineering and technical publications to keep abreast of technological changes and developments in industry.
- Inspect existing projects and recommend repair and replacement of defective parts or rebuilding of entire structures.Advanced use of Excel, Word and other Microsoft products.
- Confer with Production, Project Management, and Engineering entities to identify design improvements to reduce material costs and save production hours.
- Perform additional duties as requested.
Requirements
- Experience using structural analysis programs.
- Experience using AutoCAD and SolidWorks, or equivalent CAD software.
- Experience designing structural and steel products.
- Knowledge of structural codes including AISC Steel Construction, ASCE 7, IBC, and Cold-formed Steel.
- Strong math skills and ability to perform structural calculations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering field required (Mechanical, Structural, or Civil)
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Works in both a professional office environment and a manufacturing/production floor environment.
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the facility.
- Regular interaction with production employees and operations personnel on the manufacturing floor.
- May be exposed to varying temperatures, moderate noise levels, dust, moving machinery, and forklift traffic while on the production floor.
- Must follow all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when entering production areas.
- Occasional bending, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting of office materials or supplies up to 20 pounds.
- May require occasional flexibility in schedule based on business or production needs.
