Description


The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA) is a national nonprofit public charity dedicated exclusively to finding permanent homes for the more than 130,000 children waiting in North America’s foster care systems. Created by Wendy’s® founder Dave Thomas who was adopted, the Foundation implements evidence-based, results-driven national service programs, foster care adoption awareness campaigns and innovative grantmaking. The Foundation has an opening for a full-time data analyst.


STATEMENT OF PURPOSE


The data analyst is responsible for identifying and deploying advanced analytics utilizing the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Child Trends database to measure and document the work of the Foundation. This position supports the Foundation’s mission by leveraging both quantitative and qualitative data to demonstrate the impact of the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program to internal and external stakeholders, including state and local partners engaged in child welfare initiatives. Through thoughtful analysis and reporting, the data analyst helps inform strategic decision making and supports the Foundation’s efforts to strengthen positive outcomes for the children we serve.


ACCOUNTABILITIES


1. Produce routine data reports and summaries that communicate the Foundation’s reach, impact and program progress to internal teams, state and public agencies


2. Maintain and update performance dashboards and data visualizations for the Foundation, including supporting the preparation of recurring monthly, quarterly and annual Wendy’s Wonderful Kids reports


3. Analyze program demographics, census, utilization, outcomes and other key data; pull, extract and validate data from multiple sources to support routine reporting and ensure strong data hygiene, integrity and appropriate handling of de-identified data


4. Apply established statistical tools and reporting methods, such as SAS or R, to conduct quantitative analyses, identify trends in program outcomes and fidelity metrics and communicate insights through data storytelling, visualization and presentations for diverse stakeholders


5. Work closely with the Foundation’s various teams to extract data from multiple systems to generate routine reports measuring a range of key performance indicators; maintain progress updates through the project management system (Asana)


6. Assist in the preparation, production and dissemination of publications, presentations and research resources ensuring completion within established timelines


7. Assume responsibility for professional growth, stay current on industry trends, best practices and emerging technologies in data analytics and data management, as well as developments and research within the child welfare community

Requirements


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in data management, data analysis, statistical reporting, data visualization and qualitative research methods, including experience with statistical software such as SAS and R 
  • Knowledge of data governance principles and experience applying operational excellence practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate and present complex analytical concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented, with the ability to work independently, apply strong critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills, prioritize tasks effectively and demonstrate strong time management skills; exceptional attention to detail with a customer service focus
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and leadership; follow established procedures consistently and apply sound judgement in decision making

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate degree required; statistics, data analytics or related degree preferred 
  • 4+ years of experience in program management with a focus on data analytics  
  • Experience in child welfare with a focus on evidence-based and data-driven practices preferred
  • Background and/or experience with statistics or finance preferred
