Position Summary

SBCHC is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Clinical Education to join our Nursing Department. This leadership role is responsible for the design, implementation, and oversight of competency-based clinical education and training across nursing and clinical support teams in a multi-specialty ambulatory setting.


This role collaborates closely with Practice Managers, Clinical Directors, the Nurse Manager, the Director of the NP Postgraduate Fellowship, and senior leadership to ensure staff are trained, competent, and practicing at the top of their license. The Director also maintains academic partnerships with local colleges/universities and directly supervises the Medical Assistant (MA) Manager.


This position includes approximately 20 hours per week of clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner. Newly graduated Nurse Practitioners may be eligible to complete clinical time through SBCHC’s APRN Transition-to-Practice Fellowship.

 

Key Responsibilities


Clinical Education & Competency-Based Training

  • Lead the development and implementation of standardized, competency-based training programs for nursing and clinical support staff.
  • Partner with clinical and operational leadership to advance quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Design and oversee clinical skills validation processes to ensure staff competency and compliance.
  • Adapt training programs to support various departments including Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Urgent Care, and Medical Specialties.

Academic & Educational Partnerships

  • Serve as the primary liaison for colleges and universities for MA, RN, and NP clinical placements.
  • Foster a structured, supportive learning environment for all student learners within the Nursing Department.

Leadership & Personnel Management

  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and performance evaluations for the MA Manager.
  • Coach the MA Manager in leadership development, conflict resolution, and data-driven management practices.
  • Support clinical compliance and oversight of the MA float pool.


Clinical Practice

  • Provide direct patient care approximately 20 hours per week as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Participate in postgraduate clinical training when applicable.
Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Active Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license in Massachusetts.
  • 3–5 years of clinical experience (RN and/or NP) in an ambulatory or outpatient setting.
  • At least 2 years of experience in clinical education, operations, or healthcare leadership.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
  • Experience working in a community health center or FQHC.
  • Experience with academic partnerships or workforce development.
  • Newly graduated Nurse Practitioners with significant prior RN leadership experience will be considered.

Additional Information

  • Reports To: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to bend, pull, and carry up to 70 pounds; sit and stand for extended periods. OSHA Job Category III.

Salary Description
$140,000 - $180,000 per year
