Solterra Academy provides comprehensive special education for students aged 5 to 22 requiring intensive intervention due to severe emotional, behavioral, cognitive, developmental, and/or learning challenges. Crisis Responders support students in emotional and behavioral crises using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) skills to de-escalate situations in a developmentally appropriate manner. They provide individualized attention, support, and monitoring, collaborating with each student’s primary team to implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) aimed at helping students develop social problem-solving, stress management, and anger control skills. Crisis Responders play a vital role in maintaining a safe and structured school environment by utilizing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and TCI strategies.
Position Type: 10-Month, Full-Time Hourly Position plus summer school requirement
Starting Hourly Rate: $22.00
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM (In-Person)
Summer Hours: Monday to Friday 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM (In-Person)
Please note: This position requires a year-round commitment, including both the regular school year and our summer session. We do not offer summer-only employment.
Requirements :
- Respond promptly to staff requests for assistance in de-escalating students in crisis using TCI techniques.
- Proactively support students to minimize the likelihood of a behavioral crisis.
Behavior Management:
- Implement PBIS strategies consistently and effectively.
- Utilize TCI techniques to support students emotionally and behaviorally.
- Follow each student’s Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) throughout the school day.
- Establish and maintain appropriate personal boundaries and set limits with students.
- Exhibit cultural sensitivity and understanding in all interactions with students and families.
- Use a therapeutic tone and demonstrate patience during daily interactions with students.
Data Tracking:
- Record student performance data as directed by teachers and primary team members.
- Complete Behavioral Incident Reports (BIRs) and Restraint/Seclusion documentation in a timely manner.
Transportation:
- Assist with student transportation to field trips, job sites, and emergency transport home when necessary.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 6 months experience using TCI techniques in a therapeutic setting.
- At least 6 months experience working with children and adolescents who have emotional or behavioral challenges.
- Must be physically capable of demonstrating and implementing TCI-approved emergency restraint techniques.
- Valid driver’s license, with the ability to obtain any additional licenses required to transport students.
