The National Compliance & Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all regulatory compliance and safety programs within our national IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) operations. This role ensures that all processes - from equipment intake and data destruction to remarketing and end-of-life recycling - adhere to applicable federal, state, and international regulations, industry certifications, partner contractual requirements and safety regulations. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of ITAD-specific standards and thrives in a fast-paced, operationally intensive environment.
The individual will serve as the organization's subject matter expert on workplace safety, environmental compliance, and hazardous materials handling - ensuring that our team members are protected, our facilities are compliant, and our operations reflect the same values of care and responsibility that define our mission. Key Responsibilities
Regulatory & Certification Compliance
- Maintain and manage key ITAD certifications including R2v3 (Responsible Recycling), e-Stewards, NAID AAA, and ISO 14001/45001.
- Monitor and interpret changes to applicable regulations including EPA, OSHA, DOT hazardous materials rules, and state-level e-waste laws.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards relevant to ITAD and electronics processing operations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for certification bodies and regulatory agencies during audits and renewals.
- Manage annual third-party audits and ensure timely corrective action on all findings
Data Security & Destruction Compliance
- Oversee data sanitization processes to ensure compliance with NIST 800-88, DoD 5220.22-M, and client-specified standards.
- Review and approve Certificates of Data Destruction (CODs) and Certificates of Recycling (CORs).
- Ensure chain-of-custody documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready at all times.
- Partner with IT and operations teams to validate data destruction equipment calibration and software integrity.
Policy Development & Training
- Develop, update, and enforce internal compliance policies, SOPs, and work instructions across all facility operations.
- Design and deliver compliance training programs for operations, logistics, enterprise partnerships and impact teams.
- Conduct internal audits and gap analyses to proactively identify and remediate compliance risks.
Client & Vendor Compliance
- Review client contracts and RFPs for compliance requirements and translate them into operational directives.
- Respond to client compliance questionnaires, due diligence requests, and on-site audit inquiries.
- Evaluate and qualify downstream vendors and recycling partners to ensure compliant and responsible disposition.
- Maintain an approved vendor list with current certificates, insurance, and compliance documentation.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare and present compliance metrics, KPIs, and audit outcomes to leadership.
- Maintain a compliance calendar tracking certification renewals, regulatory deadlines, and internal audit schedules.
- Lead root cause analyses and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes following non-conformances.
- Stay current on emerging ITAD regulations, sustainability requirements, and industry best practices.
Safety Management & Policy Development
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive safety management program across all facilities and operational sites.
- Conduct regular facility inspections, risk assessments, and hazard analyses to identify and mitigate potential safety risks.
- Oversee the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials including batteries, CRTs, toner cartridges, and other regulated e-waste components.
- Lead incident investigation processes - identifying root causes, documenting findings, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- In collaboration with HR, design and deliver safety training programs for all staff, including onboarding safety orientation and ongoing education on topics such as ergonomics, PPE use, forklift operation, and hazardous material handling.
- Maintain accurate safety records, incident logs, and regulatory documentation in accordance with OSHA recordkeeping requirements.
- Partner with warehouse, operations, and logistics leadership to integrate safety practices into day-to-day workflows.
- Monitor and report on safety KPIs to senior leadership, identifying trends and recommending improvements.
- Lead emergency response planning, including the development and maintenance of evacuation procedures, spill response protocols, and business continuity plans.

- 5+ years in safety & compliance experience, preferably within warehouse, manufacturing, logistics, or ITAD/e-waste operations.
- Demonstrated experience managing R2, e-Stewards, NAID or similar certifications through full audit cycles.
- Strong working knowledge of data security standards (NIST 800-88, HIPAA, GDPR as they relate to hardware disposition) preferred.
- Experience interpreting and applying federal and state environmental regulations (EPA, RCRA, state e-waste statutes).
- Proficiency in maintaining chain-of-custody systems and compliance documentation platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex regulatory language for operational teams.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risk and develop practical, effective solutions.
- Excellent communication and training facilitation skills - able to engage employees at all levels.
- Proficient in maintaining safety records, conducting audits, and preparing regulatory reports.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain a positive safety culture across multiple locations.
- Experience working in a nonprofit or mission-driven environment is a plus.
