ABOUT NORMAN BIRD SANCTUARY’S SUMMER CAMP:
For six decades, Norman Bird Sanctuary has welcomed hundreds of campers to our award-winning Summer Camp. In what has become a tradition for many, generations of curious campers have been able to explore our expansive 300- acre outdoor classroom and have fun in nature. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Norman Bird Sanctuary is seeking seasonal Teacher Naturalists for our Summer Camp program. Teacher Naturalists lead groups of 12-15 campers aged 4-11 years old; plan and teach a variety of hands-on, nature-based camp activities; oversee camper health and safety; communicate with staff and parents; and supervise high school Assistant Naturalists in Training (A.N.T.s). Term of employment runs June 12 – August 14, including 5 days of staff training with a CPR and First AID certification option for those who are not already certified.
Fledglings & Goslings | Ages 4-5 years | Monday-Friday, 8:00 am–4:00 pm
Nature Day |Ages 6-11 years | Monday-Friday, 8:00 am–4:00 pm
Coastal Camp |Ages 8-11 years | Monday-Friday, 8:00 am–4:00 pm
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be at least 18 years old by June 1, 2026· Must be available June 12th -August 14th · Experience working with children in a responsible and professional educational setting· Knowledge of or a strong interest in the natural sciences· Strong communication skills· Must pass national and state background checks· Bachelor’s degree or coursework towards a college degree in education, environmental science, or biology preferred
COMPENSATION:
Salary is based upon experience and position, starting at $18 per hour, paid biweekly. This is an exempt, at-will, temporary position.
