About the Role
We are seeking a Patient Safety Support Nurse to provide specialized consultation on patient safety policies, analysis of outcome data, and Joint Patient Safety Reporting system support for the Clinical Quality Management (CQM) Program at the Defense Health Agency (DHA).
This is a fully remote position based in the United States. Must be available between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST Monday through Friday. This position is contingent upon contract award.
Responsibilities
- Utilize HQ-level patient safety policies and activities.
- Collaborate with key staff to ensure the effective integration of patient safety functions.
- Establish and implement patient safety systems and promote the culture of safety.
- Monitor the collection and analysis of organizational outcome data related to patient safety and the delivery of patient care. Evaluate and prioritize problem areas apprising leadership of problems and potential courses of action.
- Develop corrective action plans and evaluate initiatives to determine effectiveness.
- Collaborate to develop appropriate risk-reduction strategies to improve safety and reliability.
- Implement and manage a standardized process for managing HIT system alerts related to patient safety.
- Coordinate planning, training, and implementation efforts regarding patient safety and EHR modernization efforts. Provide consultation, coaching, mentoring and education to field staff.
- Consultation, coaching, mentoring and education to field.
- Patient Safety Reporting System fluency.
- Electronic Health Record Navigation and experience with Cerner EHR products.
- Bar Code Medication Process.
- Provide a weekly Patient Safety project status report to be included in the CQM Weekly Performance report.
- Follow all statutes, Department of Defense Instructions (DoDI’s), and DHA policies and procedures pertaining to the CQM program, training requirements, standards of conduct as established by the DHA Director. and program reporting protocols.
- Perform other duties as required.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 10 years combined clinical and administrative healthcare experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in patient safety at a large healthcare system, corporate healthcare or HQ.
- Must have experience supporting the Military Health System (MHS)/Defense Health Agency (DHA).
- Knowledgeable on the use of measures to assess the quality and safety of care delivered, clinical measurements used to identify trends and focus quality improvement efforts on performance plans across the healthcare delivery system.
- Experience in Corporate, HQ or large medical system preferred.
- Effectively communicate at various levels within the organization.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust or equivalent DHA security clearance and customer approval.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
Education and Training
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing. An Associate’s degree in nursing with significant directly related experience may be considered.
- Registered Nurse with the ability to maintain current, unencumbered Registered Nurse licensure.
- Must be a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and/or Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM). This is mandatory.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
