POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Estimator will be responsible for leading and developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for the Company’s renewable energy project pursuits, including mechanical, electrical, and civil scopes. This role plays a key part in supporting the company’s preconstruction efforts by preparing detailed takeoffs, evaluating subcontractor and supplier proposals, and identifying cost, scope, and schedule risks.
The Senior Estimator will collaborate closely with preconstruction, business development, engineering, procurement, and operations teams to ensure estimates reflect realistic constructability, productivity, and market conditions.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*
Estimating & Cost Development
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates in HeavyBid for solar projects (mechanical, electrical, and civil scopes). As assigned, leads and takes ownership of the estimated project cost budget.
- Perform complete quantity takeoffs, cost breakdowns, and labor/equipment analyses for self-perform and subcontractor strategies as they apply.
- Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing.
- Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope gaps, risk factors, and value opportunities.
- Maintain and update internal cost databases, unit rates, and productivity benchmarks.
- Support bid-day preparation and submission of bid form, value engineering concept pricing, and ACE documents, ensuring accuracy and documentation completeness.
- Present estimate in Executive Bid Review meeting prior to proposal submission, able to defend logic for costs included based on client documents, project staffing, temporary construction facilities, general conditions, industry knowledge, and aligned processes and priorities of the Company. Responsible for making recommended adjustments by executive reviewers to estimate and respective bid form.
- Participate in post-bid reviews, client Q&A, and iterative estimates as needed.
- Assist Preconstruction and Engineering Managers with handoff to project teams after award.
Coordination & Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering and design teams to confirm design assumptions and quantify cost impacts.
- Collaborate with procurement and operations to align estimates with current market conditions, logistics, and construction methods.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and trade partners to clarify scope and estimate assumptions.
Project Analysis & Risk Identification
- Identify key project risks, constraints, and constructability issues during the estimating process.
- Provide recommendations for cost-saving or value-engineering opportunities.
- Support preconstruction leadership in developing pursuit strategies and proposals.
Documentation & Systems
- Maintain organized records of estimates, clarifications, and supporting documentation memorialized in Company shared project folders.
- Assist with maturation of estimating software database and structure.
- Ensure consistent use of company estimating tools, templates, and processes.
- Support the continuous improvement of estimating systems and procedures.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of estimating experience in solar, renewable energy, or commercial construction.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and civil scopes and interfaces.
- Experience developing cost estimates for projects up to $25M+ preferred.
- Familiarity with self-perform and subcontracted work models, union and open shop labor strategies.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in estimating and takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and general office software.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Working knowledge of CAD or scheduling tools is a plus.
- Solid understanding of project delivery methods (lump sum, GMP, design-build, etc.).
WORK ENVIRONMENT / JOB CONDITIONS:
- Full-time salaried role.
- Based in Enfield, Connecticut (hybrid work flexibility available).
- Occasional travel to project sites or other company locations may be required.
