Summary: Maintains and repairs property and facilities in the Nature Preserve.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from the Nature Preserve Manager.
- Maintains all hiking trails, facility entrances, boardwalks, pavilions, and shade structures
- Cuts grass, trims weeds, and edges lawn, entrance, and parking areas.
- Digs flower beds, plants flowers, and maintains flower beds.
- Empties trash and recycling cans, clean grounds of litter.
- Paints interior and exterior walls and trim.
- Drives truck and loads brush and roadside trash onto truck, and delivers refuse to landfill.
- Removes and replaces damaged signs and way-markers.
- Repairs and maintains mowers, power tools and other equipment.
- Maintains and conducts minor repairs to buildings, signage, and exhibit areas.
- Installs maintains and repairs irrigation systems.
- Assists in controlled burns and vegetation management, including herbicide use.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in the one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: To perform the job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of internet software and word processing software.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Texas Driver’s License in good standing; must be available for training if necessary.
Other Skills and Abilities – Groundskeeping/landscaping skills, knowledge of mowers, turf management, irrigation, machinery and carpentry in order to do minor repairs.
