POSITION: Senior Project Manager – Resilience (PRA Flood Specialist)

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Senior Project Manager within AEI’s Resilience Group, you will lead Property Resilience Assessments focused on flood hazard and water related climate risks for commercial and multifamily properties. This role is designed for a senior practitioner who brings deep technical expertise in flood risk, FEMA mapping, hydrology and site level vulnerability analysis, and who can independently manage complex PRA engagements from scoping through delivery.

You will serve as a technical lead on flood related assessments, mentor junior staff, support quality control, and partner closely with Resilience leadership to advance AEI’s PRA and climate risk services. While familiarity with FORTIFIED is valued, the primary emphasis of this role is PRA delivery and flood hazard specialization.

This is an opportunity to join a growing national practice at the forefront of climate risk, resilience, and risk informed asset management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage Property Resilience Assessments in accordance with ASTM E3429, with a primary focus on flood hazard, extreme precipitation, sea level rise, storm surge, and related water driven risks.
  • Serve as the technical lead for flood risk evaluation, including interpretation of FEMA FIRMs, Flood Insurance Studies, parcel level flood exposure, freeboard considerations, and flood protection systems.
  • Evaluate site conditions, building elevations, critical equipment locations, drainage patterns, and site constraints through desktop review and field investigations.
  • Integrate climate projections, flood modeling outputs, and third-party hazard data into PRA findings, clearly communicating assumptions and limitations.
  • Develop clear, actionable vulnerability and mitigation recommendations related to flood risk, including conceptual adaptation strategies and order of magnitude cost considerations.
  • Perform and oversee site visits, interviews, and data collection to support PRA Stage 2 and Stage 3 assessments.
  • Review and provide quality control for PRA deliverables prepared by other project managers and staff, with emphasis on flood related sections and technical accuracy.
  • Coordinate with internal AEI teams and external subject matter experts as needed to support complex flood and climate risk evaluations.
  • Support select FORTIFIED Commercial and Multifamily projects as needed, particularly where flood exposure intersects with resilience and performance objectives.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to clients, lenders, insurers, and other stakeholders through written reports and verbal presentations.
  • Contribute to the evolution of PRA workflows, flood hazard methodologies, and internal guidance documents.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of junior resilience staff and PMs.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining high standards of quality, responsiveness, and client service.
  • Travel for site visits and project related activities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • 7 or more years of experience in flood risk assessment, climate risk consulting, resilience, civil engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in flood hazard analysis, including FEMA mapping, Flood Insurance Studies, and site-specific flood vulnerability evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of hydrology, stormwater behavior, coastal and riverine flooding mechanisms, and building level flood impacts.
  • Experience applying climate data and projections to real estate or infrastructure risk assessments.
  • Familiarity with ASTM E3429 Property Resilience Assessments strongly preferred.
  • Ability to translate complex technical data into clear, practical guidance for non technical audiences.
  • Experience leading projects, providing technical oversight, and mentoring staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise technical reports.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and comfortable working independently on complex assignments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Zoom.
  • Ability to conduct site visits, including navigating building interiors, exteriors, and uneven terrain.

EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline required.
  • Professional Engineer or Registered Architect strongly preferred.
  • Additional credentials related to floodplain management, resilience, or climate risk are a plus.
