Position Overview

The Manager, General Ledger is responsible for overseeing the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the organization’s general ledger and financial close processes. This role ensures compliance with GAAP, maintains strong internal controls, and partners closely with cross-functional leaders to support accurate financial reporting and informed decision-making. The Manager, General Ledger leads a team of accounting professionals and serves as a key advisor to senior finance leadership. 


Essential Duties

General Ledger & Financial Close

  • Oversee all general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes 
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP 
  • Review balance sheet and income statement reconciliations; resolve variances and discrepancies 
  • Maintain and manage the chart of accounts and accounting policies 

Compliance, Controls & Audit

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements 
  • Design, document, and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting 
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external auditors, coordinate audit requests and support audit deliverables 
  • Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen controls and increase efficiency 

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop general ledger accounting staff; set clear expectations and performance goals 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement 
  • Support professional development through training, feedback, and career growth planning 

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with FP&A, AP, AR, Payroll, Grants, and other finance functions to ensure accurate financial data flow 
  • Collaborate with business leaders to explain financial results, trends, and impacts 
  • Support system implementations, upgrades, and integrations related to accounting and financial reporting 

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Drive standardization, automation, and optimization of accounting processes 
  • Ensure effective use of ERP and financial systems; act as a subject-matter expert for GL-related functionality 
  • Support special projects and ad hoc analyses as requested by finance leadership 


Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance 
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger ownership (7-10 year preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of remote supervisor/manager experience 
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting 
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, MS Dynamics, SAP) 
  • Advanced Excel skills

Preferred

  • CPA or CMA - preference given to candidates with CPA or CMA
  • Experience in complex, remote, national, multi-entity or nonprofit environments 
  • Experience supporting audits and implementing accounting process improvements 

  

Base Pay Overview 

OCHIN uses broadened pay ranges to support equitable and market-aligned compensation practices. The final offer will be based on a variety of factors, including relevant skills, certifications, education, experience, training, responsibilities, internal equity, and market data.


Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Constant interpersonal skills, teamwork, and customer service. Frequent creativity, mentoring, presentations/teaching. Occasional decision making and independent judgment or action.  
  • Reading, speaking, writing, and understanding English.  
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle      or feel; reach with hands and arms.  
  • This position requires a virtual home-office environment, working remotely and will require that employees be on camera for all virtual meetings.
  • The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and mobile devices. 
  • Travel is required to support OCHIN’s business requirements for Go-Live installations or training which may require travel by air, vehicle, or train. 

Work Location and Travel Requirements

OCHIN is a 100% remote organization with no physical corporate office location. Employees work remotely from home and many of our positions also support our member organizations on-site for new software installations. Nationwide travel is determined based on OCHIN business needs. Please inquire during the interview process about travel requirements for this position.
