Salary: $25-$27 per hour (depending on qualifications and demonstrated readiness for the role)

Hours/Week: This is a full time non-exempt position. 40 hours per week, includes some evenings, nights and weekends

Centro Tyrone Guzman is Minnesota’s oldest Latine-serving organization, dedicated to improving the well-being of Latine families through a holistic, intergenerational approach to education, health, and wellness. Our programs span the entire lifespan: from early childhood (Siembra Montessori) to youth engagement (Raíces and Be@School), maternal and family wellness, and older adult services (Adult & Aging). 


Position Summary 

The Development and Communications Specialist is responsible for implementing integrated strategies that support Centro Tyrone Guzmán’s fundraising, donor engagement, and organizational communications. This role works closely with the Development Director to execute communications that strengthen donor relationships, support revenue generation, and elevate the organization’s visibility and impact. 


The position leads day-to-day content creation, campaign execution, and communications across digital platforms, events, and external communications, ensuring alignment with Centro’s brand, values, and development priorities. The specialist also supports donor stewardship, fundraising initiatives, and storytelling efforts that communicate community impact and promote long-term sustainability. 


Job Responsibilities:  


Development and Fundraising 

  • Partner with the Development Director to implement donor cultivation, stewardship, and engagement strategies  
  • Provide communications support across all development revenue streams, including individual giving, grants, and corporate partnerships  
  • Develop and execute communications aligned with fundraising cycles, grant timelines, and donor engagement plans  
  • Create content that engages donors and funders, demonstrates the use of funds, and centers community impact in ways that are authentic and values-driven  
  • Maintain and manage Centro’s donor database, including data entry, reporting, and data integrity  
  • Track, analyze, and report donor data to inform fundraising strategies and decision-making  
  • Prepare donor communications, including thank-you letters, acknowledgments, and year-end tax letters  
  • Support donor and funder visibility through storytelling, reports, events, and digital communications  
  • Assist in planning and executing fundraising events, including promotion and follow-up communications  
  • Conduct research on prospective donors, funders, and funding opportunities  
  • Support the development of reports and communications for the Board of Directors, funders, corporate partners, and government entities 

Communications & Content Execution 

  • Execute integrated communications campaigns across digital platforms, social media, events, and earned media  
  • Create and maintain content across social media, website, newsletters, blogs, and other digital storytelling channels  
  • Develop and manage communications calendars aligned with programmatic content, fundraising cycles, cultural celebrations, and current events  
  • Capture and produce photography, video, graphics, and other creative assets; edit for digital platforms and presentations  
  • Monitor current events and emerging issues to draft timely communications using Centro’s voice and tone  
  • Collaborate on the development of newsletters, reports, and other communications for donors, funders, and community audiences  
  • Proactively propose creative, cost-effective ideas and solutions in a resource-constrained environment  
  • Manage timelines, workflows, and deliverables with attention to detail, urgency, and follow-through 

Brand Strategy and Audience Development 

  • Implement and steward Centro’s brand, voice, and visual identity across all channels 
  • Support audience development strategies that grow awareness, trust, and engagement among community members, donors, funders, partners, and the broader public 
  • Translate brand and audience strategy into integrated campaigns that are clear, consistent, and emotionally resonant 
  • Ensure Centro’s communications reflect our values, mission, and vision with dignity, cultural pride, and accountability 

Marketing Execution and Campaign Leadership 

  • Execute integrated marketing and communications campaigns across digital, social, print, events, and earned media 
  • Drive day-to-day execution across content creation, social media, Public Relations, and creative assets 
  • Proactively propose creative, cost-effective marketing ideas and solutions in a resource-constrained environment 
  • Manage timelines, workflows, and deliverables with a strong sense of urgency and follow-through 

 Other Tasks 

  • Support and cover events, including evenings and weekends as needed 
  • Support earned media efforts across local and national newspapers, radio, and television 
  • Create reports that help leadership understand performance, trends, and opportunities 
  • Support data collection and reporting required for grants, funders, and internal planning 
  • Work closely with Development, Executive Director, and program staff to surface stories, insights, and opportunities 
  • Support internal communications and cross department alignment 
  • Bring curiosity, new ideas, and a willingness to learn and grow into the role 
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of non-profit work experience in development, marketing, and communications. 
  • Knowledge and/or willingness to learn common software applications and digital tools, with a strong preference for experience using CRM and Marketing Cloud platforms (Bloomerang preferred) 
  • Strong command of digital ecosystems, including website management, full funnel engagement strategies, CRM integration, marketing automation, SEO and SEM, paid media, analytics, and performance dashboards 
  • Bilingual Spanish/English Required.  
  • Ability to design and implement data informed, cross channel marketing strategies that drive both engagement and fundraising or revenue outcomes 
  • Experience managing complex workflows, priorities, and timelines in fast paced, mission driven organizations 
  • Strong command of storytelling, content strategy, and brand positioning across digital, social, print, and traditional media platforms 
  • Ability to translate strategy into clear execution plans and deliver high quality materials under tight deadlines 
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills, with the ability to influence, align, and build trust across diverse audiences. 
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with a high degree of emotional intelligence and cultural humility 
  • Mission driven, with a demonstrated passion for using creativity, data, and innovation to advance organizational impact 
  • Deep commitment to Centro Tyrone Guzman’s mission, vision, and program goals, with the ability to work respectfully and effectively with children, families, staff, and community partners 
  • Strong knowledge of the local Latine community and the ability to relate authentically with Latines of diverse ancestry, family structures, and socioeconomic backgrounds 
  • Demonstrated experience and cultural competence working with LGBTQ+ Latine communities 
  • In depth understanding of, and respect for, Latine cultures and immigrant experiences, including generational and cultural differences between youth and parents, barriers to education, social determinants of health, the impacts of undocumented status, trauma, and domestic and community violence 
  • Commitment to working within a culturally supportive, community centered environment and a sincere desire to contribute to meaningful, positive change 
  • Ability to apply graphic design skills as part of daily work, including the creation of digital and print materials 
  • Strong ability to use research, data, and analytics to evaluate effectiveness and inform strategy 
  • Experience supporting the development of reports, grant proposals, and funder communications 
  • Other tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
