POSITION SUMMARY: The Dental Director provides clinical, administrative, and strategic leadership for the dental program, ensuring compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations, HRSA requirements, and best practices in oral health care delivery.


POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Dental Director provides clinical and administrative leadership for the dental program, overseeing dental staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting high-quality, patient-centered oral health services. The role supports quality improvement, policy development, and collaboration with executive leadership to ensure effective and compliant dental operations. 


Essential Job Functions:


Provide clinical oversight and supervision of dental staff 


Ensure compliance with NYS Article 28, HRSA, and accreditation standards 


Lead quality improvement, peer review, and infection control activities 


Participate in credentialing, privileging, and performance evaluations 


Develop dental policies, procedures, and clinical protocols 


Oversee dental service utilization, productivity, and access 


Collaborate with executive leadership and interdisciplinary teams 


 


Professional Representation and Development 


Maintain a positive image of VIP Community Services in the community and within partner organizations 


Attend all mandatory in-service trainings annually 


Attend seminars and trainings to support ongoing professional development 


Participate in team meetings and comply with all Dental Health Services policies and procedures 

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:  


DDS or DMD with unrestricted NYS dental license 


Minimum 3–5 years of clinical dental experience 


Supervisory or leadership experience 


CPR/BLS certification  


Excellent written and verbal communication skills 


Ability to speak, read, and write English required 


Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred 


Strong attention to detail and ability to manage both client-facing and administrative tasks 


Basic Computer Skills with the ability to learn a dental software system   


 


Preferred Qualifications 


Prior FQHC or public health dentistry experience 


Experience with NYS DOH surveys and HRSA site visits 


Familiarity with dental quality metrics and UDS reporting
