Senior Content Editor
Fully Remote Remote Worker - N/A
Description

We are seeking a talented and passionate Senior Content Editor with proven editorial experience to join the Garden Gate magazine team. As the Senior Content Editor, you will play an integral role in developing high-value, highly accurate content that serves and inspires our passionate gardening audience — driving the full print content development cycle from idea to final page.

Job Summary:

The Senior Content Editor works in close collaboration with the Executive Creative Director and Senior Technical Editor to shape and deliver exceptional editorial content for Garden Gate magazine. This role goes beyond traditional editing — you will be a content driver, brand voice steward, and cross-channel collaborator, maintaining a strong awareness of how print content extends across digital platforms.

You will lead and contribute to content planning, author management, field video/photography, and production review — all while keeping the Garden Gate audience at the center of every editorial decision. Working as part of a collaborative and creative team, you will be a key contributor to the brand's editorial excellence and business growth.

Requirements

 Content Development & Editing

• Produce and edit a significant volume of high-value content for the Garden Gate print magazine, ensuring all material is accurate, engaging, and true to the brand's voice and standards.

• Edit raw manuscripts of articles and departments for print — with awareness of beyond-print applications — to produce accurate, interesting, and informative copy.

• Work with the Executive Creative Director and Senior Technical Editor to oversee the print content development cycle and help inform the print-to-digital content publishing pipeline to support full-funnel audience engagement.

• Ensure all content is on-brand and consistent in terms of style, quality, and tone of voice, optimized for a premium reader experience.

• Brainstorm content ideas and assist in evaluating proposals from prospective authors, for print with an awareness of beyond-print applications.

• Work to support effective cross-channel content development.

Planning & Production

• Contribute to the annual menu planning process in collaboration with the editorial team.

• Work within production cycle deadlines with minimal oversight.

• Work with the Executive Creative Director and Senior Technical Editor to develop art and photo plans that effectively illustrate articles.

• Review print layouts to support Garden Gate's production process, ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout.

• Find, contact, and contract authors; work with them to develop and outline article ideas; and oversee story development for print with an awareness of beyond-print applications.

Field Work & Visual Content

• Travel to participate in print-adjacent video/photography for Garden Gate content; scout locations and identify topics and areas of future editorial interest.

• Appear in videos and other digital media to represent the Garden Gate brand.

• Participate in Garden Gate tours as a co-host as needed.

Brand & Audience Engagement

• Maintain a deep understanding of the Garden Gate audience and brand positioning; bring that perspective to every editorial decision.

• Be aware of and supportive of the brand's business objectives; remain adaptable to changing business needs and content distribution methods as technology evolves.

• Participate in new product development initiatives, providing editorial perspective for ancillary products aimed at the Garden Gate audience — including tours, events, commerce, and content or community enhancements.

• Be a brand ambassador, attending gardening trade shows, events, and lectures as needed.

Professional Qualifications:
