The Senior Medical Director will report to the Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and will lead the development and execution of Medical Affairs strategy and tactical plans for the assigned franchise. This individual will have broad responsibility for setting medical strategy and partnering cross-functionally to meet timelines and objectives established by the SVP of Medical Affairs and/or Chief Medical Officer. The role collaborates closely with Commercial, Managed Markets, and Clinical Development teams across U.S. pipeline indications and brands. The ideal candidate is a driven and innovative leader with a proven track record of operating in a matrixed environment and delivering results.
Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Identify, develop, and maintain collaborative relationships with current and future KOLs, scientific experts, cooperative study groups, and study sites
- Work with key professionals at the national, regional, and local level, educating them with current, fair-balanced medical, scientific, and pharmacoeconomic information regarding Catalyst’s various therapies
- Increase awareness of our marketed product(s) so key healthcare professionals can make informed therapeutic decisions
- Internal disease/product training will be the responsibility of Senior medical affairs director utilizing internal resources as needed
- Develop a cross-functionally aligned set of medical strategies for the US market needs, focused on commercialized as well as late-stage development indications/assets and aligned with the US Brand
- Build a Medical Affairs plan with specific medical tactics, in partnership with other medical functions, and aligned with medical strategies
- Collaborate closely with HR to ensure the organization's needs are met with the appropriate number of medical science liaisons to cover the region
- Primary point of medical contact with commercial, working to provide appropriate medical input into the development of promotional pieces, support in-market launch activities, contribute strategic medical input as required to the development of brand strategies, support business insights, and any associated projects
- Work with patient advocacy and other disciplines within Catalyst to ensure the medical affairs plan's goals are met
- Work with Investigator-Initiated Research and provide clarity and support to researchers
- Maintain strong relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and support active clinical trial discussion while in the field
- Lead and oversee the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and development. Provide ongoing field leadership and coaching to ensure effective execution of MSL responsibilities and alignment with Medical Affairs objectives
- Provide proactive clinical trial support by contributing to Medical Affairs–related initiatives and partnering with the clinical team to advance projects and facilitate timely trial enrollment
- Provide appropriate feedback to upper management, including CEO, on the medical affairs team's activities. Open communication on activities that relate to all organizational preparedness
Education/Experience/Skills:
- MD degree is required
- 5-10 years Clinical practice (health care provider experience)
- This may include in addition, 5–10 years clinical research, pharmacy, life science, pharma industry/academic-related experience (can include relevant fellowship)
- Experience of 5 years or more of Global or US HQ/Field Medical Affairs experience, preferably in the Neuromuscular or Rare Disease therapeutic areas, with experience managing a team of medical science liaisons.
- Functional/formal knowledge of biostatistics and epidemiology to support IIS / NIS / RWE studies / Clinical and R&D collaboration and Clinical/R&D collaboration
- Understanding of the pharmaceutical corporate environment, including Commercial Operations Marketing and Sales strategies
- Strong broad-based scientific and pharmaceutical knowledge with strong presentation and teaching skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; confident discussing drug information and disease state management
- Willingness to work cross-functionally in a compliant manner
- Ability to lead and motivate team members without direct authority, including training and mentoring MSLs
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically
- Previous launch experience managing and completing Medical Affairs projects
- Extensive experience in full-cycle talent management, including hiring, performance development, and workforce transitions for highly credentialed professionals.
- Field experience leading a Medical Affairs team Sound computer skills, including word processing, slide development, and spreadsheets
- Develop qualitative and quantitative reports; collate competitive intelligence
- Frequent laptop/tablet use in field settings
- Responsibilities may require work outside of ‘normal’ hours, including Advisory Boards, Congress attendance, and weekend business activities
- Ability and willingness to travel at least 60% of workdays required

The base salary for this position will range from $330,000 to $373,000. Candidate experience, professional licensing, and geographic location will be taken into consideration.
