What You’ll Do
As the Communications Outreach Specialist, you will support the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) by helping promote the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) across Indiana. You will create clear, engaging communications, support outreach efforts across multiple initiatives, and help ensure consistent messaging across channels such as the IDOH website, social media, newsletters, and community communications.
In this role, you will:
- Serve as a liaison between IDOH and community partners to support two-way communication and feedback
- Develop communication materials such as fact sheets, social media posts, newsletters, presentations, and website updates
- Support public health campaigns by drafting messages, coordinating distribution, and tracking engagement
- Assist with media relations, including talking points, press releases, interviews, and public events
- Monitor and help respond to constituent inquiries
- Ensure communications align with IDOH branding, accessibility standards, and health literacy best practices
- Help plan and support community-based programs and outreach initiatives
- Track outreach activities, maintain contact databases, and prepare engagement reports
- Support grant-funded projects through documentation, reporting, and evaluation
- Partner with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and coordinated outreach
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public health, public relations, marketing, social sciences, or a related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences
- 2+ years of experience in community outreach, public engagement, or partnership development
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively
- 2+ years of experience with Microsoft Office and familiarity with digital communication tools such as social media, email marketing, and content management systems
Bonus Experience
- Experience with graphic design, data visualization, or multimedia content creation
- Experience reviewing communications and advising teams on messaging best practices
- Experience coaching staff for communication with external stakeholders, including media
- Experience supporting senior communications leadership with planning and execution
- Experience coordinating responses to external stakeholders, legislators, and the public
