The Senior Consultant role provides financial and analytical support to the consulting team across traditional fee-for-service, project-based, and ongoing monthly operating support engagements for ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), as well as select internal company initiatives.
The Senior Consultant supports a diverse range of ASC clients, from small, independent physician-owned centers to large, multi-location organizations, including ASC platforms and management services organizations (MSOs).
In this role, the Senior Consultant delivers expert financial guidance across all aspects of developing and operating successful ASC facilities. This includes, but is not limited to, improving operational and financial performance, analyzing and tracking key performance indicators, and supporting efficiency, quality of care, and leadership effectiveness.
This is a fully remote position. Candidates must reside within reasonable proximity to a major international airport, as the role requires frequent travel to client sites.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
CONSULTING
- Work with other consulting team members to develop consulting business to achieve and deliver growth through new and repeat client engagements.
- Work with consulting team members to fully understand client needs, develop an agreed scope and budget for the engagement to deliver on all objectives.
- Complete all consulting work thoroughly and within expected timelines, conducting pre-work, on-site assessments and all necessary research and analysis to compile high-quality deliverables.
- Collaborate as necessary with other individuals to assist with timely completion of assignments.
- Effectively manage client relationships at all levels including physician executives, leadership teams, mid-level management, and others.
- Collaborate with other consultants and analysts as appropriate to ensure comprehensive solutions to client.
- Provide support to corporate consulting groups and trade associations related to various strategic initiatives. Work will include content development, training, consulting support, and other areas, as identified.
- Prepare and present clear and accurate presentation materials on ASC topics; effectively deliver presentations to customers, trade organizations, and at local/regional meetings from the podium, in a classroom setting, via webinar, or other training venue.
- Perform other consulting functions, as identified.
CONTENT AND RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
- Work with company consultants, staff members, and business partners in the development of ASC tools, programs, and content, as identified.
- Write articles on ASC management topics for publication on websites and in industry journals.
- Develop and update online course material for websites and other client-facing programs.
- Conduct ongoing research to ensure that current tools and content on membership websites are up to date and relevant to our customer base.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Stay up to date on industry related topics through self-study; attend courses at industry meetings and VMG-facilitated training events.
- Conduct ongoing research on government and industry changes in the healthcare field as it relates to the services VMG provides for internal and external customers.
- Develop and expand consulting skills through internal and external resources and continuing education opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar quantitative-focused degree
- MBA or CFA preferred
- Active or former CPA a plus
- Minimum of five years’ work experience in provider-side healthcare
- Client facing consulting experience required. Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) experience required.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Outstanding client service skills with a “can do" positive attitude.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, and other accounting techniques, and concepts.
- Demonstrated understanding with clear ability to analyze, interpret, and create ASC financial statements.
- Monthly performance reports and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- ASC board presentations.
- Robust, comprehensive financial and operational models.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office products, with emphasis on Excel, Power BI or equivalent.
- Able to work as a supporting team member or take the lead on independent or team projects.
- Skilled in prioritizing and managing multiple concurrent projects, often working to urgent deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills with acute attention to detail and accuracy in working with large amounts of data and in tracking/reporting hours.
- High level of professionalism including excellent communication skills, both written and oral across all internal and client interactions.
- Desire to learn and absorb new principles and ability to train and coach others.
- Proficiency in HST and/or SIS.
- Familiarity with clearing house claims management.
- Ability to thrive working independently, from home.
- Ability to accurately track and bill time in defined increments for client projects, ensuring transparency and accountability.
