Description

Position Summary

The Communications Intern supports the Fort Wayne Football Club’s internal and external messaging efforts by assisting with content creation, media relations, and digital communications. This role contributes to maintaining a consistent and professional brand voice across multiple platforms, including social media, websites, and written materials. The intern is responsible for supporting communication strategies, coordinating media interactions, and assisting with match day and event coverage. This position works under direct supervision of the Director of Communications while gaining hands-on experience in sports communications and public relations. The role is ideal for individuals seeking to develop skills in writing, media coordination, and digital content management.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist with drafting press releases, media advisories, and internal communications to support organizational messaging.
  • Support social media content creation, scheduling, and publishing to maintain consistent digital engagement.
  • Help coordinate media requests, interviews, and press interactions to ensure smooth communication with external partners.
  • Draft written content for newsletters, website updates, and promotional materials.
  • Assist with communication efforts for events, including match day coverage and fan engagement initiatives.
  • Monitor media coverage and social media channels to track engagement and public perception.
  • Ensure all communications align with the club’s brand standards and messaging guidelines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to write clearly and adapt tone for different audiences and platforms.
  • Interest in sports, communications, public relations, or marketing.
  • Basic understanding of social media platforms and digital content strategies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Experience and Training

  • Must be at least 16 years old or older.
  • High school or undergraduate college student preferred (communications, marketing, journalism, or related field).
  • No prior professional experience required; relevant coursework, writing samples, or school involvement preferred.
  • Experience with writing, editing, or managing social media content is a plus.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong work ethic.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand and move around during matches and events.
  • Occasional lifting of light equipment or materials (up to 20 lbs).

Work Environment:

  • Combination of office and outdoor (stadium) environments.
  • Moderate noise levels during matches and events.
  • Evening and weekend hours required based on match and event schedule.

Job Dimensions

  • Works closely with communications, marketing, and operations staff.
  • Interacts with media representatives, staff, and indirectly with fans through communication channels.
