Summary
The Commodity Sales Project Manager (CSPM) is a mid-to-senior level individual contributor responsible for driving high-quality, timely, and profitable execution of commodity sales responsibilities during new client implementations and complex client growth initiatives.
This role serves as the central coordination point across Commodity Sales teams, Client Services, and Implementation, ensuring the right teams are engaged at the right time and that approved strategies are executed completely and effectively. The CSPM is accountable for outcomes, alignment, and delivery of quality—focused on achieving the best possible result by the established deadline.
Role Scope & Leadership Clarity
This role does not have direct people management responsibilities and does not set long-term commodity sales strategy. Instead, the Commodity Sales Project Manager partners closely with Commodity Sales Strategists, Commodity Sales Team Leads, and National Recycling Director - Implementations to operationalize and execute approved strategies, ensuring clarity of ownership, accountability to milestones, and consistency of execution during implementations and growth projects.
Authority within this role is project-based, not hierarchical. The CSPM leads through influence, coordination, and accountability within the defined scope of implementations and assigned projects.
Key Responsibilities
Implementation & Client Growth Execution
- Own and manage commodity sales responsibilities during new client implementations and multi-site or multi-stream client growth initiatives with current business, ensuring solutions are delivered accurately, completely, and on schedule.
- This will require a strong line of collaborative communication alongside IPL and NRD teams.
- Coordinate across Commodity Sales teams to align responsibilities, assign clear ownership within implementation scope, manage workflows for CMS executives, and eliminate gaps or duplication during execution.
- Actively manage timelines, milestones, and dependencies, identifying risks early and driving resolution to maintain momentum and solution quality. This position is responsible for delivering on CMS implementation targets.
- Ensure invoicing for new project implementation is received timely and accurately. Point of escalation for AM and CMS if we are not receiving invoices on time during the first close of implementation.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Representation
- Represent Commodity Sales as a unified voice in internal implementation, status, and planning meetings - providing clear updates on progress, risks, blockers, and opportunities.
- Partner closely with Client Services and Implementation teams to ensure alignment on scope, expectations, and execution sequencing.
- Serve as an escalation point for implementation-related challenges that require cross-team coordination or decision-making.
Solution Quality & Profitability Support
- Assist with reviewing and editing contracts during implementations and client expansions to ensure solutions are structured to support profitability, scalability, and operational feasibility.
- Validate solution assumptions, pricing structures, and scope details to ensure completeness and alignment prior to execution of contracts.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify optimization opportunities before solutions are finalized or implemented.
- Point of contact for strategizing negotiation to optimize profitability per MSA’s
Advisory & Subject Matter Support
- Act as an expert consultant to Client Services and Implementation teams, advising on commodity sales execution, solution structure, and implementation best practices.
- Support complex or high-impact initiatives by applying strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and operational judgment.
- CMS resource available for Client Services to be an onsite SME. Must be willing to travel up to 25% amount of time.
- Act as the SME in client-facing engagements (With NRD/IPL Support), adapting and packaging vendor solutions into tailored, client-ready strategies. Effectively communicate value while ensuring recommendations are aligned with and driven by client priorities to seal the deal.
Project Management & Continuous Improvement
- During non-implementation periods, lead commodity sales–specific projects focused on improving efficiency, consistency, and scalability across the team.
- Support entirety of Commodity Sales team on identified continuous improvement projects to drive to completion and track results.
- Identify recurring friction points, process gaps, or inefficiencies and drive projects to address them.
- Track project outcomes and lessons learned to inform future implementations and continuous improvement efforts.
- Lead R&D initiatives and strategic research efforts as needed, identifying and evaluating new opportunities and verticals for NSR. Proactively research and source innovative solutions to support growth objectives. Establish and nurture early-stage relationships with key vendor partners to drive long-term, high-value opportunities. Effectively communicate NSR’s value proposition and impact to prospective vendors and partners
