FLSA Status: Part-Time Nonexempt 


Summary:

The Design Educator is responsible for supporting program delivery, co-creating a positive youth development environment, and supporting the development and refinement of curriculum. Additional opportunities for leading programs are available. 


Schedule: 

This part-time position averages 15-25 hours per week, depending on department and programmatic needs. Up to 35 hours per week during select weeks of the summer. Weekday and weekend availability required. 

Scheduling is variable depending on programming needs. Scheduling needs will be communicated and set with advance notice. 


This position requires weekday and weekend work, especially on weekends during the school year and during weekdays over the summer (June-August). 


This position requires weekday and weekend work, especially signature programming that occurs on the weekends during the school year. Summer programming takes place between June and early August and will require daytime, weekday support. 


Thanks to a generous donation from the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, we are expanding our Learning Team to include a new position. This entry-level position, called “Design Educator “(DE), works closely with the CAC Learning team to support program delivery and curriculum development for students, families, and school groups to explore 21st century skills related to architecture, construction, engineering, design (ACED) and science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) fields while also promoting an understanding of the built environment and our role and ability to shape it. 


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: Leading groups in activities and skill-based work. Interpreting and scaffolding experiences for diverse learners. 
  • Creating a welcoming learning environment: With support from the CAC Learning Team, Design Educators will support a fun, nurturing, and appropriate learning environment for students at a variety of developmental stages. 
  • Managing Activities: Managing and tracking program activities and reporting back to CAC Learning Team members. 
  • Curriculum support: Supporting original curriculum development and revision alongside the CAC Learning Team.  
  • Implementing Policies:?Ensuring the organization’s mission, values, guidelines, policies, and procedures are implemented.

  •  An interest in youth development and the education landscape. 
  • A desire to develop and deliver programs for students and families from populations historically underrepresented in architecture, design, science, and engineering, as well as supporting others in doing so. 
  • A willingness to explore professional skills in diverse teams and program participants.
  • Has weekday and weekend availability.
Requirements

Skills & Attributes:

  •  An understanding of youth development practices and previous experience working with students, especially pre-k through 12th grade.
  •  Expertise in the latest and greatest technical skills in architecture, construction, engineering, or design fields. 
  • Detail-oriented; excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • High level of initiative and exceptional problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work independently, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and self-awareness required. 
  • Must demonstrate comfort in a team environment, with strong collaboration skills. 
  • Experience in using digital media and technology in educational and/or program settings. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office.
