Description
The Staff Accountant I supports month-end and year-end close processes, including preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and maintaining general ledger accuracy. Key aspects of the role include assisting with financial reporting, fixed asset accounting, and audit preparation while providing support across accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions. This role also administers the company credit card program and contributes to project financial analysis, reporting, and other ad hoc accounting.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, deferrals, and reclasses
- Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate variances
- Assist with preparation of financial statements and internal management reports
- Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure proper documentation
- Assist with fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules
- Administer company credit card program, including issuance, maintenance, limit changes, and card cancellations
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes as needed to ensure accurate reporting
- Support the bi-weekly payroll through Paylocity, including providing backup support for defined payroll functions
- Assist with monthly project reviews and compilation of related data, analyzing, and understanding project profitability
- Assist with audits by preparing schedules and providing supporting documentation
- Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting as requested
- Support other accounting functions and special projects as necessary
Requirements
Required qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 3+ years of experience in accounting
- Experience using Accounting Software and ability to learn new software quickly
- Solid accounting foundation with working knowledge of GAAP accounting, including debits, credits, and account classifications
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Proven ability to provide direction and guidance to others
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills
- Strong critical thinking and reasoning ability
- Reliable team player with a strong work ethic and a “will to win” attitude
